Mary Flora (MacNeil) Landry
George’s River

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and sister, Mary Landry, on Sunday, November 10, 2019, at Harbour View Hospital in Sydney Mines. Born in Sydney Mines on March 7, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Mary-Anne MacNeil.   Mary is survived by her loving husband, Harold Landry, her sisters, Vaughnie Avery (Jude), Sarah Lamond (John) and Audrey MacDougall (Lawrence); sisters- in-law, Elva MacNeil and Cora MacNeil and by her beloved pup, Shadow.
Mary was predeceased by siblings, Theresa, Danny, Peter, Johnnie, Elizabeth, James, infant brother James and mother-in-law Olivette Sudsbury.
Mary earned her Teaching Degree at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish while serving as part of the Sisters of St. Martha at Bethany. Following her service to St. Martha’s, Mary met her husband, Harold, with whom she just celebrated their golden anniversary. Mary spent most of her life dedicated to caring for her family; a life of sacrifice but full of love. Mary shone the brightest when she was helping others.  She was a regular presence at the Northside Guest Home for close to twenty years, first caring for her father, then her mother and her sister, Libby.  Mary’s warm and comforting demeanor was appreciated by all; she could often be found in the common areas, surrounded by residents awaiting her next amusing tale.  Her stories spread great cheer among them all.  For many years, she courageously faced many health issues; however, she continually faced them with dignity and her wonderful sense of humour, right up until her final few days.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stephanie Langley for her many years of compassionate care. Thank you also to the doctors, nurses and staff at both the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Centre and Harbour View Hospital for the wonderful care she received over the past few months.
Cremation has taken place.  A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, November 14, 2019, at 2pm at Holy Family Church in Sydney Mines, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating.
Donations may be made to the Cancer Patient Care Fund, Huntington Society of Canada or a charity of choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at
