Marilyn (Collier) Baillie
Coxheath / Sydney Mines

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, and friend, Marilyn Baillie, on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at home, after a brief illness. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late William and Jenny (Taylor) Collier.
Marilyn graduated from the Cape Breton Business College in 1964 and went to work for the Nova Scotia Department of Public Health in Sydney. In 1968, she married George and they began their long, happy life together in Coxheath. Following the birth of their children, she became a stay at home mom with a busy volunteer schedule, including at Coxheath Elementary School, the Coxheath Brownies, and as a smocking instructor at First United Church Time Out. When her children grew older, she began working as a Teachers’ Aide, where she especially enjoyed her time working with children with special needs.  Marilyn and George enjoyed more than 20 wonderful years of retirement, with many travels to visit family, attending Eagles games, and lots of cooking, baking, Sunday dinners, and just being together. You rarely saw one without the other.
Her lasting legacy will be the importance she placed on family, and the unique and endearing relationship she had with each child and grandchild. Marilyn will be deeply missed by her husband of 52 years, George (Ace) Baillie, sons Mark (Barbara) (Mason, OH), Aaron (Vanessa) (Kanata, ON), and daughter Mara in Coxheath. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Emma, Ryan, Andrew, Liam, and step-grandson Spencer. She is also survived by her sister Yvonne (John) Roberts (Dartmouth) and their son Jeff (Julie), brother-in-law Stewart (Anne) Baillie (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) and their sons Paul and Stephen, sister-in-law Irene (Gordon) Selfridge (Sydney Mines) and their son Derek, and many lifelong friends.
Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
Donations in Marilyn’s memory may be made to the Horizon Achievement Centre Building Fund, 780 Upper Prince St, Sydney, NS B1P 5N6 (https://www.horizon-ns.ca/), supporting local clients with special needs, a cause she cared deeply about, or a charity of one’s choice.
