Nora Young (Dunphy), 92
Ingonish Beach

It is with deep sadness that we the family announce the passing of Nora Young ,a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, but most of all “Mom” to all who knew her and will miss her very much. She passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at Buchannan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Ingonish on April 24, 1921, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Christie (Hines) Dunphy. Nora was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Ingonish
For many years Nora worked beside her husband as they operated the Irving Service Station and Restaurant in Ingonish Beach. There she met and made friends with customers, agents and delivery truck drivers; some of whom still recognized her and stopped to talk if they happen to meet on one of her outings to “town”.
She loved to knit, sew and made many quilts, which were often gifted to family and friends. Even in her failing health Nora always enjoyed a visit from family and friends especially if it included a game of crib.
Nora is survived by her son Joseph (Patricia) Sydney, NS, daughters, Christena (her loving caregiver), Halifax and Ingonish Beach, Linda (Dennis) MacDonald, Ingonish Beach, Peggy (Wayne) Dedrick, Fall River, NS, Wilma (Shelly) Comeau, Ingonish Beach. brothers, Percy, Florence NS, Bart, Ingonish Beach NS, Angus, Ontario, and sister, Barbara Reinhart, Mississauga, Ont., two grandchildren, Wayne Dedrick Jr. and Tamara MacDonald,  a great grandson, Cody Dedrick, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Nora was predeceased by her loving husband  of 53 years, James, who passed away on April 24, 1995 .sister, Edna Cooke, brothers Chester, Cecil and Sylvester and a sister in infancy.
A special heartfelt Thank-You to the Doctors, staff and Palliative Care at Buchanan Memorial Hospital.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation on Wednesday September 25, 2013 at 12 pm at St. Peter’s Church, Ingonish. with a funeral mass to celebrate Nora’s life at 2 pm, with Fr. Daniel J. MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in the Parish Cemetery.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Nora. Know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Nora was a great woman who loved much. I have many fond memories as a child going across the street to get something at the store and being served by Nora or going to Bingo and sitting close to her or seeing her in Church or ... the list goes on and on. She was a woman who touched my life and many people's lives and she will be sorely missed. I regret that distance prevents me from being there for her funeral. Know that I will offer Mass for her. Even though she is now gone she will continue to live on in our memories, hearts and stories. Well done good and faithful servant! May she rest in peace! Fr Joseph

Dear Peggy and Family:
My heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your mom. There was always something in the way you described the stories and the expressions on the pictures you'd show us that made me feel like I knew her (and really liked her approach to life!). I will always treasure the beautiful quilt. While I can't be there this week, I will keep you and your family (and of course Mom) in my prayers.
