Mary Katherine (Kay) Gale
Sydney Mines

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Katherine (Finlayson) Gale, age 66, on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, with family by her side.
Born in Sydney Mines on March 5, 1952, she was the daughter of the late John and Violet (Bonner) Finlayson.
Kay was a lovely, quiet natured, humble woman who had a very compassionate heart. She was always there for others and to lend a helping hand. Kay had various jobs in her youth, but was a hairdresser by trade. She worked a lot in nursing homes, making it easier for the elderly to have their hair done.
She had many hobbies she loved, such as painting, crafting, puzzles, camping, and going to concerts. She loved to sing with her family. She especially loved having her husband and son playing the guitars for her. She was happiest at home with her family, but also loved going to the camper on the Bras d’Or Lakes.
She was quite endearing to everyone she came in contact with, and it is a great testament to her nature that she formed so many lasting friendships. Her love of children was reflected in the love they had for her. The neighbourhood children would often stop by for a visit, cookie, or ice cream.
She is survived by her husband Louis Victor Gale; daughter Tammy (John) Mann, son Terry Gale (Jenna Beaton), brothers Jack and Russell Finlayson, and sister Dorothy (Wilfred) Theriault. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren; Emily, Ryland, and Nicholas Gale, Terilynn, John Lee and Jared Mann, and great-grandson Nate Mann.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters Dianne, Kay, Helen and Johnena, and brothers Louis, Danny, Solomon, Walter, Murdock and Alex.
Kay was a dedicated mother and grandmother. While all are relieved she is no longer suffering, her loss has left a tremendous void in the hearts of all who loved her. No words can truly express the amazing person she was, or measure what she meant to us.
Special thanks to Sandra Toner, Nurse Practitioner, for her special care, and to all of the doctors and nurses who cared for our mother over the years. Loving thanks to all who came to visit her in the hospital, to Dot and Wilfred, Billy and Alex, Annette, Dolly and Brian, Nick and Gina, Vic and Carolyn. To anyone else who helped and loved Kay, we offer our sincere thanks and love. She loved you all.
Her family will receive visitors on Saturday, December 1, 2018, from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of her life will take place at 10 a.m in the funeral home, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com

Parted by death, we’ll all be reunited in Heaven.
