Arthur Benjamin Publicover
Middle River

We, the family of Art Publicover are sad to announce his sudden passing on Monday, January 7, 2019, at the age of 59.
Born in Halifax on September 22, 1959, he was the son of the late Harry and Shirley (Truman) Publicover of Peggy’s Cove.
After marrying the love of his life, Roberta (Susie) (Hancock), they decided to move home to Cape Breton to be with his children Cora Lee (Jason) and Ann Marie (Colin), and his grandchildren Marissa, Jordan and Amelia, his pride and joy.
Art worked for over 30 years with the school board in Halifax. After retiring, Art and Susie moved back to Cape Breton to be with their families. He loved to play baseball, and drive his motorcycle.
Anyone who had the privilege of meeting Art loved him. He was like a big teddy bear, always there for a hug or handshake, no matter how often you saw him. Art will be missed by all.
He also leaves behind his sister Marie (Clyde), brother Leslie (Cindy), both of Peggy’s Cove, mother and father-in-law Marion (Hancock) and Edward Clarke, special aunt and uncle Goldie and Rodney, special friends Gail and Blaine Morash, many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Besides his parents, Art was predeceased by his son Eddie.
Visitation for Art Publicover will be held Friday, January 11, 2019, from 2-3 p.m.in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main St., Sydney Mines. A celebration of his life will take place at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com

Dear Susie and family, We are saddened by the news that Art has passed. I have fond memories of working with Art both at ESM and Shatford. He had thoughtfulness and a caring and kind manner that endeared him to students, families and staff. His contributions made a difference in the lives of others, what more could a person aspire to? And, to be truthful, he always found a way to yank my chain or tease but it was always followed by a laugh and that great smile and I loved it. He will be missed but he will not be forgotten. Love to all. Bill and Helen Matheson

Dear family and friends of Art:
My deepest sympathies at the loss of Art. I had the pleasure of working with Art and his dad Harry at East St. Margaret's school. Art was a kind, fun loving, hard worker that we shared many memorable moments with. We used to call him our Elvis for obvious reasons. If you needed something done for the kids he was always there with a willing helping hand. Art had a great sense of humour and gave as well as took many practical jokes. I am so sad for your loss. God bless.

Dear Susie & family,
It is with great sadness that I heard about Art's passing. I worked with Art at Shatford Memorial School one year. I was so surprised the first time I heard his voice over the PA system when he did the morning announcements at the school. It was great to hear his voice. I came to find out he would step in and do this on days when the principal was absent....that was Art. He was so kind and would help out in any way he could. I used to ask him if he would mind listening to what the students were working on in class as he passed by our door. It was great for the kids to have someone besides me to show what they were learning and I can still picture Art listening to the kids and complimenting them on how well they were doing. I was so pleased a few years later when he came to work at Tantallon Elementary where I was working...and of course that was the school he was at when he retired. As you said, everyone who knew Art loved him. My thoughts go out to you all at this difficult time.
