Laureen Jenkins, 61
Sydney Mines
It is with profound sadness and grief that we announce the passing of Margaret Laureen Jenkins, age 61, on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit of the CBRH. Laureen left this world knowing that she was loved and cherished, which satisfied her through her long and difficult battle with cancer.
Laureen was the daughter of Louise Jenkins (Giles) and the late Walter (Skippy) Jenkins.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her spouse Wendy McLellan; sisters, Jocelyn (Rey), Mass., Tanya (Ron), Mass, brother Kimberly (Lynn), Alberta, five nephews and once niece. Laureen is also survived by her mother-in-law, Florence McLellan, sisters-in-law Kathy Scott (John), Sydney Mines, Eleanor Wilson (David), Truro, and their family.
Also left to mourn Laureen are very special relatives, Mary Viva and her family; and Bill and Esther Giles and their family. Laureen leaves behind many more aunts, uncles, and cousins and many cherished friends.
Besides her father, Laureen was predeceased by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Up until the time of her illness Laureen was the General Manager of Wendy’s Restaurant, North Sydney.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Laureen will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the JM Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Laureen’s life will be held on Monday at 10:00 am in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of Flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre Patient Care Fund, the Autism Society of CB, Haley Street Adult Services or a charity on one’s choice.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com

The world has lost a bright light. When Laureen lived in Moncton, Curtain Call Theatre was a big part of her life, and that in turn made her a big part of the lives of many of us who were lucky enough to meet her there. Her professionalism, her organizational ability and her sheer joy at the artistic process was an inspiration to the rest of us, whether she was on stage, back stage, directing or administrating. She could be counted on to share an honest opinion (tactfully, of course) and to smooth over disputes. Mostly, she was a great and loyal friend.
I have been in touch with several of the members of the company during that era, and it pains us greatly that weather may keep us from attending this celebration of a most cherished life among us all. Wendy, Louise, Jocelyn, Tanya, Kim and your family - please know that while we may miss this ceremony, we will always miss and never forget Laureen. Her light will burn within each of us, and we look forward to gathering in celebration in the coming months to share that light.

I as well, echo Tom MacArthur's sentiments, having been a member of the theatre troup. My heartfelt condolences to Wendy, Louise, Kim, Jocelyn, Tanya & your families. Once in a while you meet that person. The one who gives you reason to think, to question things & to realize part of your true potential. That was Laureen. A loyal & dedicated friend to the end, who never, ever lost her optimism. I will love and miss you always Laureen…...my friend.

It is with great sadness that I read of Laureen's passing. I taught her in school as well as other family members and taught with Louise and knew her father. She was an excellent student, always had that ready smile with a twinkle in her eye. She will be so missed by all of you and I extend my heartfelt condolences to all. Take care. To Wendy and family: I would like to extend my sincere condolences to you and your family. I knew Laureen in High School and was lucky not only to have her as a friend but I enjoyed having her as a teammate on our basketball team. I have wonderful memories of her throughout those years. Unfortunately I lost contact over the years but it is obvious that she has touched so many lives. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
