Simon Joseph Arsenault, 81
Ingonish Beach

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Simon Joseph Arsenault in his 81st year on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital. Simon Joseph was born in Margaree and moved to Ingonish when he was 2 years old. Simon Joseph is survived by his loving wife of almost 55 years Sarah, sons Very Rev Joseph – Kansas City, Dr Andrew & his wife Dr Heidi King– Saint John, grandchildren Simon & Siena, Sisters – Sr Catherine – Antigonish, Delia (Paul) Campbell – Lower Sackville, Helen (Joe) Buckingham – St John’s and sister-in-law Theresa Arsenault – Sydney River, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Simon Peter and Justine (LeBlanc), his precious daughter Nadine, sister Anna Thurbide, and brothers Rev George and Andrew.

Having graduated from St Francis Xavier University, he entered into the teaching profession, where he taught at Ingonish Beach Consolidated School. His dedication to teaching did not prevent him from spending time doing the things he loved which included spending time with family, golfing, skiing, fishing, working in the woods, and gardening to name just a few.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Tuesday February 5, 2019 from 12 noon until the funeral at St Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Ingonish Beach. The funeral will be at 2pm with his son presiding. Burial will take place in the summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North of Smokey Hospice Palliative Care Fund, St Peter’s Parish Cemetery Fund, or to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com

To Sarah and the Arsenault family,
My sincere condolences to you on Simon's passing. While it has been a number of years since we worked together, it was always a pleasure for me to visit the Beach school and spend time with the staff that Simon was such an important part of. On behalf of both Agnes and myself, I again extend our sincere condolences.
