It is with sadness that we announce the passing of “Sir” Andrew David Olson on Thursday July 11, 2019, on the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Andy was born in Sydney Mines on April 1, 1940, and was the son of the late David and Annie Olson. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 25 years Juanita Potter, his son Steven (BC) daughter Ingrid(Michael) Fainhurst (BC) and his granddaughter Kathleen. He also leaves behind to mourn his brothers and sisters George(Doreen) Pickering Ontario, Sandra LeBlanc (Jean Marie) Montreal, Cynthia Vendetti (Cecil)Sydney, Dave (Sharon) Sydney River, Marlene Parkinson (John) Montreal, Brenda MacDonald (John) Scotchlake, Tommy (Lana) Sydney Mines, Mary MacLean ( Donnie) North Sydney, Debbie Hoover (Dave) Deer Lake NL, Bonnie Rahey (Paul) Sydney River as well as many nieces and nephews and the Potter family.

Prior to his retirement Andy’s career was in the insurance and construction business.

Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends on Thursday July 18, 2019 from 1-3pm with a service to follow with Greg Murphy officiating at J M Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street Sydney Mines. A reception will follow the service at the Sydney Mines Pensioners/Seniors Club, Fraser Avenue Sydney Mines.

We would like to express our deepest appreciation to the staff, physicians and volunteers at the Palliative Care Unit for their exceptional care of Andy and his family.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
