Marjorie “Nin” Sarah Doucette (Fraser)
May 2, 1934 – September 24, 2020
Ingonish Beach

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mom, Marge Doucette in the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Thursday, September 24, 2020.
Born in New Waterford on May 2, 1934, Marge was the daughter of the late John Dan and Victoria Veronica (Corbett) Fraser.
A woman of superhuman abilities who held positions of (but not limited to) nurturer, chef (or short-order cook, depending on how many were in the kitchen that day), cleaner, nurse, chauffeur, handywoman, therapist, mediator, bodyguard, detective, negotiator, consoler, and tower of strength and ability.
Besides her family there is nothing she enjoyed more than the beach.  She spent every possible minute sitting in the sun with her beach family.  Mom was long standing volunteer for Palliative Care, Eucharistic Minister and active member of the Catholic Woman’s League at St. Peter’s Parish Church.  She was a woman of strong faith.  Nothing was more precious to her then her family and friends.  She loved a good story and a laugh and spending time with her weekly craft group.
We are all pretty sure that her last words would have been “I’d rather be at the beach”.
Marge is survived by her children Pam (Andy) Doherty, Kathy (John) MacKrous, Parker (Myrna) Doucette and Nancy (Dale) MacDougall, brothers Russell (Judy) Fraser, Eddy (Pauline) Fraser and sister Eunice Burchell.  She was proud to be Nin to grandchildren Amanda, Blair, Robyn, Danial, Meghan, Glori, Jeremy and Travis as well as great grandchildren Rebecca, Michaela, Bailey, Hayden, Peyton, Grayson, Peyton, Easton, Avery, Rory and Tatum.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Leroy Doucette, daughter Leigh (Winston) Donovan, great-granddaughter Ainsley Donovan, brothers Gordie, Wayne, Earl Fraser and sister Lorraine Fraser.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the EMT’s, nurses, doctors and staff of 4C, and the Palliative Care Unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North of Smokey Palliative Care, St. Peter’s Parish Church graveyard fund or St. Peter’s Parish Catholic Women’s League.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be a private family service. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at

Wanted to say how sorry I am to hear of aunt Marge's passing. I had the opportunity to visit briefly with her last summer. Hadn't seen her in years. As always, she greeted me with a smile, a laugh, and a big hug. So filled with happiness and energy, always. As long as I've known her, she's always been the same. A wonderful lady who will certainly leave a huge void in the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Thinking of her immediate family. God Bless.

Marge was a bright light that lit up everyone’s lives that she met. Her sense of humour, love of the beach and fashionable dress made her a one in a million lady! I have fond memories as a child when I would run across the brook and she welcomed me with cookies or whatever else she whipped up before we all went out to play. I will miss seeing her on her throne at the beach but will smile remembering all the times she made me laugh including the way she made fun of her new Cape Smokey mask at church last month. A great lady was taken too soon but her memories will live on in our hearts 💞.

Although Marge's mortal body has finished an earthly journey, her spirit will be felt/live on with the wonderful energy she exuded to all, hopefully bringing comfort to all her family...and friends! A wonderful teacher because all of us mourning her loss agree she was the BEST memory of school days; I recall a few of us kind of ?arguing who got to sit beside her as she read us the daily story in class; what a woman to so many! A privilege to have known this wonderful woman... on behalf of myself and Doug, my sister Mel and Flora Anne and brother Stephen may these wonderful memories help sustain you during those lonesome moments... very best, judy in PEI

Dear Marge's family-I am so saddened by Marge's passing-I remember Marge from the time I was a young child. She was always so sweet, kind and pleasant to all of us kids and gave us the best of her baking including her pork pies! Always a smile, a laugh and a joke! Sending mine and Derrick's sincerest of condolences to all-may she fly high!

To Parker and Myrna and all of Marge’s family. So sorry to hear of Marge’s sudden passing. She was such a sweet, generous soul with a great sense of humour. I always enjoyed having a conversation with her at “ her spot” on Ingonish Beach and will miss her bright smile and that mischievous twinkle in her eye! The neighbourhood won’t be same without her!! Sending all my love and deepest condolences.

Dear Family & Friends,
Marge leaves a deep void in the community of Ingonish. She was just always there. She served the community well for all her life. She managed Nancy & I at our first job. It was a student summer job, we had a desk in the Stone building, part of the Tourism Cape Breton at the time handing tourist info to all who came in (we were 14 I think). She was a champion for all. She was a hard worker. In The CWL she was always there to grieve with everyone and serve those lovely treats and sandwiches for any after life celebration. I wish I was there to celebrate her lovely life with you guys; but that can't happen in these times but know that she and you are in my thoughts.
