Robert George Weeks
Sydney Mines
The family of Robert George Weeks regret to announce his passing on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Bob was born in Worthing, England, the son of a Canadian soldier, George Allison Weeks of North Sydney, and an English war bride, Dora Lille Weeden of Ongar, England.
After the war ended, the family returned to Canada. Growing up in North Sydney in the fifties, Bob enjoyed the many outdoor activities of the times as friends made their fun together. The sixties found him attending university, preparing for a teaching career.
His first teaching position was in Quebec but, like many Cape Bretoners, he returned home and spent thirty years in the Northside school system. He taught at both Thompson and Sydney Mines High Schools before moving to Memorial Composite School. There he served as Vice Principal and eventually retired as Supervisor for the Northside District School Board.
In retirement, Bob spent ten years as a Lay Minister for St. John’s Anglican Church in North Sydney. There he met many wonderful people and soon realized that the two most important things in life are your relationship with God and your relationship with people.
Later in retirement, Bob spent winters in Florida and enjoyed the daily activities of walking, swimming and biking. Bob was an avid walker, both in Florida and home. “Every day is a blessing” he would say, “and I have been truly blessed.” But
Heaven is my permanent home, and that is where I am going.”
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Maisie (Forrest) Donovan Weeks, his daughter Amanda (Paul) Boisjoli, Middle Sackville, NS, stepdaughter Jean (Gord) Marsh, Sydney Mines, and three stepsons; Ricky (Leanne) Donovan, Fort McMurray, AB, Robbie (Jean) Donovan, Sydney Mines, and Shawn Donovan, Boularderie. Bob is also survived by four uniquely wonderful sisters; Beverley (Bob), Gee, Waterville, NS, Berniece MacMullan, Halifax, Linda (Jos) VanDommelen, Boularderie, and Pam (Rob) Kelly, George’s River. Not to be forgotten are twelve grandchildren; Morgan, Nathen and Caleb Boisjoli, Katelyn, Danielle, Ryan, Josh, Jenna, Morgan, Stephen, Emily and Brody, along with one very precious great-granddaughter, Natalie, and two great-grandsons Maverick and Benjamin.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to Trinity Anglican Church, or Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com

To Bob' s family,
Bob's passing comes as a shock to us. A colleague, a friend, and a fine gentleman has left us all too early. Reading his obit however gives us comfort since, like always with Bob, he was prepared and ready. May this good man rest in peace.

First of all, my deepest sympathy to Mrs. Weeks and all of Bob’s family. I have known Bob for too many years to count-first as my High School teacher at Thompson High in North Sydney and in later years as a church family member at St. John’s in North Sydney. He was a very kind gentleman with that little grin that kept you in suspense as to his thoughts. I feel safe in saying that he is prepared for eternal life with our Lord as he lived every day in that mode. I am sure that he will be deeply missed but share your stories to keep his memory alive.God bless you all and may Bob’s soul rest in peace! Hugs to all

In my early years as a spare secretary with the Northside-Victoria District School Board I always loved being called in to fill Marjorie's spot at Central Office because I would be working for Bob. He was the best, always patient and a perfect gentleman, it would always be a great day. I will miss seeing him walking along the Pond Rd. My condolences and prayers to the whole family.

Mr.weeks taught me math at Sydney Mines High. He was knowledgeable and quite kind. My sister died tragically in 1980 and Mr.Weeks arrived at our door to give condolences as well as the School pictures my sister never ordered. This was during the summer so he had the kindness to take the time to go to a closed school and seek the pictures out for us.
THAT speaks to the humanity of Bob Weeks!

To all Bob’s family I offer my sincere condolences. I remember him as my supervisor when I taught Junior High in Iona. He used to love to visit our small school. I also am grateful to Bob for always asking if I needed any resources. He never failed to bring me what I needed. He was the best supervisor I ever had being so understanding, patient and down to earth. He will be deeply missed. May he rest peacefully in God’s loving arms. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.
