Gregory Survine MacMullin
September 23, 1942 - December 30, 2020
North Sydney
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Greg MacMullin, 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Greg grew up in Cranberry and was the son of the late Survine and Irene (Beneson) MacMullin. He was a proud 25-year service member of the Coast Guard, and candidly recounted memories of the life-long friends he made as he worked.
Greg was a devoted and loving husband to Brenda (Young) MacMullin, his wife of 58 years, and an outstanding father to his two adored daughters Shawna and Tara.
In his retirement, Greg spent much of his downtime between the North Sydney Wharf, and Devoe's Landing, where he became a beloved friend to many. He enjoyed chatting with the boys over a coffee and feeding the many pups who came to know his car for it's stash of treats.
While a man of many hobbies, Greg's greatest joy came from restoring antique classic cars. He was particularly proud of both his 1940 Oldsmobile, which he restored to authentic factory condition, and his 1978 Ford Stepside truck.
Greg is survived by his wife, Brenda MacMullin; Daughters Shawna (Donald) and Tara (Dave); grandson Gregory (Danielle) Sommers; grand-daughter Catrina (Tristan) Barnes; great-Grandsons Emmett Sommers and Ari Barnes; sister, Margaret White; brother, Kevin MacMullin (Elizabeth); numerous nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved, and best friend, Kevin Latwaitis.
He was predeceased by his parents, Irene and Survine MacMullin; brothers Jackie and Eric MacMullin and sister, Eileen Anthony.
The family would like to thank Dr. Patrick O'Grady, who was not only a doctor to Greg, but also a friend; the nurses and staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital; the VON Team and the Palliative Care Team, especially Ms. Holly Winn, for the care and compassion given to Greg.
There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place. A private family service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Society in Cape Breton or a charity of ones choosing. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
Those we love are never more
than a thought away,
For in our precious memories
They’re still with us every day.

Our sincerest condolences to Brenda and family. I first met Greg when I began work at the old Coast Guard College in Point Edward, being connected as "Boys from the Northside". I was truly shocked by his passing.

I want to express my deepest sympathy to Greg's family on his passing. I worked with Greg at the old Coast Guard college and we recently reconnected when my husband had knee surgery in November. We had a chance to laugh, share a few stories and reminisce about the old days.
Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
