Allison Jean Viva
Sydney Mines
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our mom, Allison, at the age of 67. She passed on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, after a short but incredibly courageous battle with cancer.
Allison was born in North Sydney on October 6, 1953, to the late Gordon and Jean (Simpson) Edmunds. Allison attended Mount Saint Vincent University and studied political science. Upon finishing university, she worked for Scotiabank in Halifax and Sydney Mines before beginning her career at Marine Atlantic, where she worked for thirty years and made many of her treasured friendships. She was notorious for loving Pepsi and always having a stash of treats wherever she went. She loved to laugh and always made those around her laugh, often at her own expense. She cared deeply about others, and she would go out of her way to help anyone if she could. She enjoyed listening to classic rock music and following politics. Most of all she loved her family immensely.
She is survived by her soul mate and best friend of over forty years our dad, Paul. Our mom’s greatest accomplishment was being a mom to her children. She leaves behind Tony (Amanda), Paul David (Brenna), and Vanessa (Kurtis), as well as her precious grandchildren, who were the lights of her life, Sophia, Anthony, Ellie, and Jessie. She is also survived by her sister Betty (Logan), brother-in-law Davie (Jeanie), sister-in-law Goretti (Fred) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law Anthony and Margaret and sisters-in-law Annette and Verlie.
Our most sincere gratitude goes out to Dr. Giorno, the staff of 4B, as well as the palliative care staff, whose care and compassion for our mom was unwavering.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com

Dear Paul and family, so deeply saddened to hear of Als passing. We were childhood friends almost inseparable as kids, we stood at each other’s wedding and my Jillian and Tony were born a day apart. And I remember Al as a teenager wearing 2 pairs of pants to make her look bigger after she Ate lays chips and Pepsi. I have beautiful memories and when Allison met Paul she met her soul mate. I have known Allison since we were four years old, going to Mrs. Mac Cormack’s tiny school on Shore Rd. While playing at my house on Brown Street, we decided it was a good idea to share a bottle of Jack and Jill cough medicine, because we both thought it was delicious. The first of many early childhood memories. I vividly remember those lovely eyes and the infectious giggle. The world won’t be the same without her. My sincere condolences, Susan

Paul, Betty and loved ones of Allison,
Allison was a close friend in school especially elementary and jr. high. Many a day I walked home to Alexander Street from skating down in the woods behind her home on Fraser Avenue. Toes and fingertips frozen...feet feeling swollen and hunger pangs echoing...it was delightful regardless. I'll never forget those days.
She was a good listener, had a great sense of humor and well...just a good person overall.
Though I've not seen her in decades I remember her vividly because vivid she was. Bless your hearts with this loss. She'll be watching over you...I have zero doubt about that. God bless!
