David Jessome
Florence

God needed another Angel in Heaven, so he called ours home.  David Jessome Sr. left his earthly home with us and crossed over to his heavenly home with God on Monday, January 18, 2021 at the age of 81.  David was the son of the late Patrick and Sarah Ellen (Nellie) Jessome.   He died from complications of Lewy Body Dementia, which he fought for 13 years.
He was well known in the Florence community a member of Florence Legion, Kiwanis Golden K Club, and Council of Society of St. Vincent de Paul.  Was a lector and choir member in St. Stephen’s Parish.  He was the former Commanding Officer of 602 McCurdy Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron – the same squadron that all 5 children were members of.  During this time, he helped them to acquire all the criteria necessary to reach the gold level of the Duke of Edinburgh program and took them as far as London Ont. so these cadets could be presented with their medals from the Duke of Edinburgh himself.
A man of many careers, he served in the Army for 3 years, worked in the coal mines, bricklayer’s helper, barber, milkman and lastly a butcher at the Bras d’or Co-op.
He is survived by his wife and soul mate Jane (DeLeskie), his children, Davy (Sheila), Denise, Derek (Carolyn), Debra, Duane (Joeliene), his grandchildren Brittany, Chad, Eric, Elise, Daniel, Katie, John, James, Mitchell, Logen, Connor, Courtland and Quinn, his great grandchildren, Kylila, Luna and Mitchell, and one on the way in March, his brother Carl, his sisters Patti (Gordon) and Shirley (John), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by siblings Nellie, Winnie, Irene, Sis, Harry, Brozie and Stephen.
The family can’t express how much we appreciate the staff at the DVA in HVH. They always went above and beyond for their “King”. We know that he became like a family member to you all over time and he was treated as such. The care and concern that you showed for us all as we sat with him in his final days will be remembered forever.
In lieu of flowers or donations, Dave would like to be remembered as one who lived to help others.  So, he would want you to pay it forward and offer help to those that need it.  Sometimes only a smile or a hello, how are you.  He brought his children up to believe families that play, pray, and work together will continue that belief with their families to come after him.
There will be no visitation. A celebration of his life will take place Thursday, January 21, 2021, at 11 am in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Fabian Ihunegbo officiating. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com

To Jane and the 5 D’s – my friends. My deepest sympathies on the passing of your husband and father. Davie was such a wonderful man and a very special part of my teenage years! I have such fond memories of him and a gaggle of teenagers heading out on our great outdoor adventures. He taught us so much about the environment, outdoor survival, teamwork and how to have fun. I smile when I think of the laugher. He helped us to make memories and friendships, which will last a lifetime. How lucky were we to have him in our lives. He really was a remarkable person. I know he is smiling down upon us all now.

Our sincere condolences to the entire extended Jessome Family. "Poppy" Dave was well loved by my family for his kindness, inclusion, and the way he smiled with his eyes. His family was his pride and joy, and he instilled those values not only in his family but in others who were graced by his presence. Rest easy. You put the kettle on Poppy, we'll bring some treats when we meet again.

Aunt Jane and family,
When we think of Uncle Davey we are brought back to the day we were engaged. How can a couple from Ontario drive to Cape Breton, start a hike back to Indian Brook only to hear Derek's name being yelled behind us. There was Uncle Davey and Uncle Stevie hiking back also, for a day of fishing. It was such a special day for us and having them join us was awesome. The two of them did disappear while the question was being asked. From that point on I fell in love with the family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. Love Derek and Debbie ❤️

Jane and family,
I am incredibly saddened by the news of Dave's passing. I will always have fond memories of Dave and they will always bring a smile to me. He was kind and full of life and I loved that about him. The last time I saw Dave was when I was in hospital at the beginning of my own illness and he told me everything would be alright. I'll never forget that and it meant a lot at the time. He will always be remembered and I'm thankful to call him Uncle Dave. May you feel an outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. I wish you all well during this time. May people celebrate a full and giving life of a wonderful Uncle.

So sad to hear of Davies passing. We started school on the same day and proceeded through the grades together. Through these years we were good friends. Davie was always fun to be around. I will always remember the little pranks that he and I would be in on. After leaving Florence I only met up with Davie on two or three occasions when I would come “down home”. We would always have a great laugh about those younger days. Whenever I met up with fellow “northsiders” his kindness and respect for others was always noted. Although gone, Davie will not be forgotten. My sincerest condolences to his wonderful family and may he Rest In Peace.

Dear Jane,Dave,Denise,Derek,Debra,Duane and Family. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Dave. The majority of my memories of my childhood included one of you or all. Your father was my father. I was treated like one of your own and always felt at home. Lots of time hanging out at your house, your cottage or spending days off in the milk truck. Sour smells but all the chocolate milk you could drink. I am sorry I never got a chance to visit him last year when I came home. When I first went out west your house was one of my first stops when I would visit Cape Breton(Elmer Roper was the 2nd). That was after I got to seen my momma. You all looked after my mother in her aging years cause that's what your parents taught you. Thank you all and please know I am sad as you are too. I will raise a glass of wine in honour of your father. Peace be with you Dave. Love Always!!
