Alex Johnson Obituary

Alexander Robert (Alex) Johnson

Sydney Mines

We, the family of Alex Johnson, 85, regret to announce his passing on Monday, February 28, 2022, at the Northside General Hospital, with his family by his side.

Born in Sydney Mines on August 9, 1936, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Boyd) Johnson.

Alex was a coal miner until an accident forced him to retire. He enjoyed hunting with Jackie and the Boys, in Middle River at the “Buck Lodge.” He also enjoyed spending time with the family at the cabin, and house parties. He could always be found on “the lot”

Alex is survived by his daughter Mary Elizabeth (Lampinen), and his son Alex (Thelma) Johnson. Also left to mourn are his grandchildren Erkki and Sara Lampinen, and Sam Johnson, sisters Catherine Davies, Yarmouth, and Nora Lawton, Cape Breton, and his brother John Charles Johnson, Bras d’Or.

Besides his parents, Alex was predeceased by his loving wife Edith (Whitty), grandson Alex, and numerous brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank Continuing Care, the VON, the nurses on 4 West, and Dr. Alex Wawer. Special thanks also to Jackie Jobes, Archie Guy, Terry MacLeod, Kenny McGuigan, and Elaine and Tanya Clark for the kindness shown to our Dad over the years.

Visitation for Alex Johnson will take place on Friday, March 4, 2022, from 2-4 pm in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A private funeral will be held at a later date. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
