Alexander David (Alex) Chiasson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alexander “Alex” David Chiasson on Tuesday, August 12th, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family. Dad was born on October 25th, 1948, to the late Helen LeBlanc and Simon Chiasson. He spent most of his life in his beloved home of Margaree with his siblings Mary LeBlanc (Bill), Margaret Boudreau (Gordon), Joe Chiasson (Rosanne), and the late Paul Chiasson. Dad was known for his compassion and strong sense of community — always ready to share from his garden, lend a helping hand, or offer a listening ear to his friends and neighbours. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and puttering around outside.  Dad was also known for his sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with friends, watching a round of Jeopardy or playing Cribbage with his good friend, Charlie Williams.

Dad is survived by his daughters Rachel Chiasson, Lori Williams (Jay), Barbara Davis (Ron); and his granddaughters Morgen (KC), the twins Hannah and Olivia, Karissa (George), and Brooke, as well as his extended family and many friends. Dad treasured his time spent with his granddaughters and was always so proud to speak of their achievements.  He was affectionately known as Poppy, not only to his grandchildren, but many others.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Alex Lettice, who assisted with Dad’s care at home. The family will forever be grateful. We would also like to extend our thanks to the nurses and staff of the Northside General Hospital 4 West, Dr. Conrad Oja and the staff at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre. Your support and guidance brought comfort, not only to Dad, but to all of us.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 18th from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at Jobes J M Funeral Home in Sydney Mines, with a funeral service on Tuesday, August 19th, at 2:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in North Sydney.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Northside General Hospital or charity of choice.
