Alfred Ernest (Sonny) Bungay Jr

Alfred Ernest Bungay Jr (Sonny), age 88, Sydney Mines, NS. Died Thursday, November 16th, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of previously deceased Alfred Senior and Ella Daye and survived by his wife Alice (Campbell), sons Michael (Kimberly) (Sydney), Jason (Halifax), and his dearly loved Granddaughter Gillian (Sydney).  He was predeceased by brothers Lorne, Bill, and Clayton Sisters Lila and Aurelia. Sonny loved animals and was also predeceased by his beloved cats Ralph and Garfield and his furry “grandchildren” (cat) Natsu and (dog) Tsuzie. A member of the Saint John’s Anglican Church, North Sydney, and a welder by trade, he worked most of his career at Sydney Engineering and North Sydney Marine Railway. Sonny was very proud to have served in the Royal Canadian Armed Forces in the 1960s. Sonny was a devoted hockey fan of the Detroit Red Wings and coached minor hockey for several years in the Sydney Mines Minor Hockey Association, where he also served as a volunteer board member. An avid fisherman, he spent many summers fishing with his brothers and friends. He loved to share hunting and fishing stories with his close friends. Sonny loved spending time at the Northside Downs watching harness racing with his long-time friends. He could be found there on warm Saturday afternoons enjoying the horse races. His loving and friendly presence will be forever loved and missed.

The Family will receive visitors on Friday, November 24, 2023, from 1-2 pm, with a service to follow at 2 pm held at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main Street, Sydney Mines.
