Allen Frans MacLean 95, Big Bras d’Or

Allen passed away at home on Sunday, September 10, 2023, with his son Bobby at his side.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York, USA on December 31, 1927.  Allen was a Past Master of Royal Oak Lodge #85 and a member of St. James Church, Big Bras d’or.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Marguerite of 55 years, who passed away in 2013, his parents Robert and Albertina (Stenstrom) MacLean and brother in-laws James Campbell and

Leo King. 

He is survived by his two children Bobby MacLean and Janet (Joe) VanSchaick. Also his Grandchildren, Maggie (Ryan) Dawson, Krista (Peter) Speare, Jenny (Eric) McGowan, Joe (LeighAnn) VanSchaick and Jakob (Danielle) VanSchaick.  Allen also had 9 Great Grandchildren,  Teddy, Fritz, and Duke Dawson; Charlotte, Gabby, Evvy Speare; Josie, Remy and Foster McGowan.  He leaves behind to also mourn, sister in-law Sophie King; nieces, Edna, Marlene, Loretta and Mary and nephews Kelvin and Jr.

Allen’s family would like to thank Neighbors and Friends who because of all your loving help, Dad was able to remain in his home.  A special thanks to Keith and Chrissy; Jackie and Tatty  and Summer and Jamie.

Also a heartfelt thanks to the VON’s and Victoria County Home Support especially Molly, Marlene and Danielle who gave Dad companionship and care each day.

Cremation has taken place.  A funeral service will be held at St. James Presbyterian Church, Big Bras d’Or at 2:00p.m., October 14,2023
 Interment will be in the St James Cemetery immediately following the service.

 A reception will follow in St James Church Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Allen’s name may be made to Cape Breton Cancer Centre or St. James Church Cemetery fund.
