Amelia Kay Jessome

It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Amelia Kay Jessome, announce her peaceful passing Thursday, June 29, 2023, at home, with her family. Born in Florence on June 17, 1939, to the late Louis E. and Muriel (MacDonald) Jessome, she was a lifetime member of St. Stephen’s Church Florence, a devout catholic her entire life.
Amelia worked at Harbourview Hospital Sydney Mines her entire career as a Food Service Supervisor. She taught catechism at St. Stephen’s Church, Florence, was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Florence, and was a member of the Fire of Love Prayer group for numerous years. Amelia loved her family; she was a very proud grandmother of her only granddaughter Lauryn and aunt; to her many nieces and nephews. She always looked forward to family gatherings, especially Christmas Eve, with her siblings.
Amelia is survived by her only son Gary (Lori), granddaughter Lauryn, with whom she has lived with for the last number of years. Sisters, Marie Kamermans, Beverly (Frank) Sampson, Lynn (John) MacPhee, Joanne (Gerry) Risser, Laurie Jessome. Brother, Terry; sister-in-law, Marie Jessome; brother-in-law, Freeman Spicer. Numerous nieces and nephews. Amelia shared a special bond with her nieces, Melissa, Lori- Beth, Mandy, Heather, and grandniece Ariana; growing up next door to each other, she played the role of a grandmother.
Besides her parents, Amelia was predeceased by her brothers, Joey (Yvonne) and Ronnie, and sister Louise Spicer and brother-in-law, Bill Kamermans.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Andrew Wawer, and office personnel Mary and Brenda, along with the staff at Capital Drugs, Sydney Mines.
A visitation for Amelia will be held on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023, from 6-8 pm in JM Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St. Sydney Mines. A funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, at 11 am in Holy Family Parish Hall, with Fr. Fabian officiating. A reception will follow.
