It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Andrew Roy " Andy" MacDonald, make note of his passing on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at the Northside General Hospital, embraced in love. Born June 4, 1937, he was the youngest child of the late Frank and Madge (Moffat) MacDonald and the last surviving member of his immediate family.
An easygoing family man of moral character and lifelong resident of Sydney Mines, Andy found contentment in the unfolding joy of life, be it walks with his beloved wife, Ingonish vacations, reading, Celtic and country music, playing guitar, watching the Blue Jays or Red Wings, a lively kitchen party, family holidays and gatherings. He was adherent to his Catholic faith and a parishioner of Holy Family Parish.
As a member of ILA 1259, Andy worked for Marine Atlantic (Stevedore), retiring in 1996 after 35 years of dedicated service. A strong work ethic and friendly manner garnered him respect and friendship from coworkers and management. A forward-looking activity in retirement was taking train trips to Ontario to visit his grandchildren and extended family.
Andy is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 62 years, Mary (nee Livingstone), his four sons: Roger (Deneene) and Robert, Sydney Mines; Mark (Gwenna) and Christopher (Janice), Innisfil, Ontario. His grandchildren, Andie Jean, Camden, Noah, Zachary, Kiah, and Dexter, all of whom were held close to his heart and could make him smile with their gentle humor. Also left to mourn his passing are his sister- in -law, Ella Macdonald, Cambridge, Ont, and the Livingstone family. Ethel (Russell), Billy (Brenda), Beth, and numerous nieces and nephews, whose lifelong connections with their uncle have endeared him to be the "finest kind"
In addition to his parents, Andy was predeceased by his siblings: brothers Robert "Bob" (Mae), Walter, Stanley, Donald "Donnie", sisters Marjorie and Ella Martin (Doug), father and mother-in-law William and Mary (MacLean) Livingstone, and brother-in-law Jimmy Livingstone.
We would like to acknowledge Dr. A. Waver, the nursing staff of 4 West, Northside General Hospital, and Davey Jessome for their medical care and nursing compassion.
Cremation has taken place, mass of the Christian Burial and celebration of life to occur at a later date.
Donations in Andy's memory can be made to the Parkinson's Society or charity of choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of JM Jobes Funeral Home. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
