Anne Shirley LeBlanc
“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
It is with loving hearts we say goodbye to Anne Shirley (Fyfe) LeBlanc … devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Born in Sydney Mines on June 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Annie (McMullin) Fyfe.
She will be sadly missed by her husband Douglas; children Rayeanne McGean, Dee-Anne (Blair) Maltby; grandchildren Vicki (Doug), Brigid, Tony (Allison), Simon, Annie; and great-grandchildren Zora and Rory; sister Judy (Charlie), special friends Shirley Gouthro and Georgie Edwards, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her sisters Isabel (Raymie) and Marie (Joe); brothers Gerard, Blaise and Marcellin (Audrey), stepfather Mose LeBlanc and son-in-law Brian.
When asked, Shirley liked to say that she was born on the longest day of the year. How fitting for someone whose light shone on everyone she met. Graduating from Normal College in 1953, her teaching career spanned over 35 years, and she passed her special light onto every student she came in contact with.
She and her husband Doug enjoyed over 65 years of treasured memories together, including dances at Birches and at the KOC, Sunday afternoon drives, picnicking around the Cabot Trail, and Saturday nights filled with good friends and good times.
With the birth of her children Rayeanne and Dee-Anne, her love continued to grow. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy, loving each one unconditionally in her own special “Nanny” way.
Famous for her Christmas shortbread and always stylin’…be it sharing a cup of tea or out shopping with family and friends, her love of life was felt by all.
The family would like to thank Dr. Charlie Coish, Dr. Alexander Waiver, and the nursing staff of 4th Floor West for their professional and compassionate care for our mom.
A visitation for Shirley LeBlanc will be held on Thursday, December 28th, 2023, from 3 pm- 6 pm in JM Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A Funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 11 am, in Holy Family Church Hall.
