Annie MacLean Obituary

Annie Mildred MacLean

December 19, 1936 - April 5, 2024

It is with extreme sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Annie Mildred MacLean, age 87, on April 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

Born in Alder Point, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Helen Thurbide of Alder Point and a faithful member of St. Anne’s Parish. They say that God considers the love and kindness a person extends in their life to family, friends and community, and in turn rewards their soul by reciprocating the love they gave, back unto them when he calls them home. As her loved ones, we pray this is true because Mom radiated love and kindness. We send all of our love with her as she returns back to her Holy Father.

Mom had an unconditional love that never wavered and her first priority was always the well being of her children. Mom found her greatest joy in the love she felt for each and everyone of us and was without a doubt the center of our family. There was nothing she loved more than having us all together at regularly planned family gatherings and the chaos of the little ones laughing and playing. Every visitor to Mom’s door was greeted with a drink and something to eat that was homebaked. We never left her presence without a kiss, hug, "I Love You" and "be careful" followed by her faithfully standing in the doorway waving goodbye. We will continue to celebrate her life and love by carrying on our family gatherings and traditions without her, reminiscing about how she would have loved to have been here. She will be there in each and everyone of us, and watch us proudly from above. She will certainly be missed and loved forever.

Besides spending time with her family, Mom loved to bake, watch her soaps and game shows, do word search play bingo and attend TOPS where she made many friends which she loved dearly. In the summers, she loved sitting outside enjoying the salty air and cool breeze of the Alder Point Gut and was usually quick to tell you who owned every boat that went through.

While raising her children, Mom was a devoted homemaker and wife until her children all attended school, at which time she went to work as a Lunch Lady at Alder Point Elementary School. Following this, she was employed at Alder Point Fishplant where she enjoyed spending time surrounded by many friends and over the years continued to tell us stories of the plant girls.

Mom married the love of her life in 1955, the late Gordon Melvin MacLean, and has missed him dearly since his passing in 2015. She is survived by her loving children, Rose (Ray) Marsh, Melvin (Betty) MacLean, Marlene (Dale )MacIntryre, Gus (Miriam) MacLean, Glenn MacLean, Alta (Shane) Walker, Kevin (Lisa) MacLean, Eddie (Carla) MacLean, Chick (Alex) Ivey, Scott (Tracy) MacLean and Dwayne (Debbie) MacLean. Grandchildren, Lindsay, James, Christina, Ryan, Jennifer, Chris, Sean, Candace, Kyle, Alanna, Janine, Shannon, Amanda, Nicholas,

Great Grandchildren, Stevie, Georgie, Kc, Avery, Logan, Hayden, Delaney, Kyle, Kaiden, Jacob, Abel, Walker, Cree, Tate, Tanner, Remi, Triton, Grayson, Hudson, Violet and Ava. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Gordon Melvin MacLean, son, Dale (the late Carol) MacLean, great granddaughter in infancy, Lilly Dale. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being predeceased by her brothers Stanley, Reggie (Bridget) and Solomon (Marg); sisters, Eva (Percy) McGraw, Margaret (Simon) Marsh, Grace (William) MacDonald and Hilda (Alphonse) Harrietha. She was also predeceased by brothers-in-laws Lorne (the late Margie) MacLean, Lloyd MacLean and sister-in-law Alta (Gary) Nicholson.

As per Mom’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place.
