Barbara (Barb) Anne Penny
Sydney Mines
It is with immense sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother and wife, Barbara (Barb) Anne Penny on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at the age of 68. Born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia on January 7, 1954, Barb was the daughter of the late John and Beatrice (Jessome) Young.
Barb touched the lives of so many and was always finding a way to help anyone in need. During her 25 years with the Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board, Barb helped countless students. Barb always paid extra attention to those who struggled to find their way.
Family time meant the most to Barb. Barb beamed with joy when she talked about her precious granddaughters and spoiled them as much as possible. Barb loved Roy Orbison, taking walks on Lockman’s beach with Alex, and had an eye for design and home decor.
Barb will be deeply missed by her husband and pal of 46 years Alexander (Alex), daughters Gina (Graham Boutilier), and Heather (Jamie MacLean) and the true lights of Barb’s life, her three beautiful granddaughters, Claire, Ella and Alexandra (Allie) who love their Nannie with all their hearts.
Barb also leaves behind brother Daniel Young (Linda), sister Catherine Young, brother John Young (Judy), sister Nancy Young, sister Joanne Walsworth (Stephen Cole), sister Beatrice Bailey, brother Tom Young (Margaret Gray), and sister Lisa Courtney (Michael).
Besides her parents, Barb was predeceased by her brother George Young, sister-in-law Judy Young and brother-in-law Raymond Bailey.
As a family, we express a sincere heartfelt thank you to the Cape Breton Regional Cancer Care and Palliative Care Unit front line staff and nurses, physicians Dr. Joan Salah, Dr. Peter Poulos and our mother’s earth angel, Dr. Wissam Saliba, who provided her with exceptional timely care and attention. Your kindness to our mother and wife will never be forgotten.
Cremation has taken place. Following Barb’s expressed wishes there will be no visitation or service. As a family, we ask for you to find a way to honour Barb’s life by paying it forward to someone in need. In lieu of flowers, we ask donations be made to the Cancer Care Unit or Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
