Bernadette Schofield Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife,
mother, and grandmother, Bernadette (Hall) Schofield, at the age of 77, on December 22, 2025.

Born in Sydney Mines to Tommy and Roseann (McBride) Hall, she was the oldest of 13.

Bernadette decided to make the journey to the Annapolis Valley to pursue her education. It was there that she met and married her soulmate, Tubby. They decided to make their way back to Sydney Mines, where they built their family and spent 55 wonderful years together.

She held many positions throughout her years of employment. She most enjoyed volunteering and working as a PCW at Miners Memorial Manor. She truly loved her job and always went above and beyond for her residents, ensuring all of their needs were met. Bernadette especially liked being involved in the annual Mother’s Day Tea.

During her time at the Manor, she had many friends among her co-workers, some of whom recently became her caregivers.

Left to mourn is her soulmate, Tubby; her daughter, Joanne Fraser (Kenny); her grandchildren, Mitchell and Kate; and our dog, Cassie, whom she loved endlessly.

Bernadette was also known as Nannie Bern to all of the kids in the family. Her yard was always filled with giggles and happy memories.

She held a special place in her heart for TJ and Beth Hall, whom she thought of as her own grandchildren.

She will be missed by her siblings: Maureen (Joe Boutilier), whom she thought of and raised as her own daughter; Paddy (Pamela); Rose (Rizzie) Stewart (Corrie); Edna MacDonald (Wayne); and John Wilson, all of Cape Breton; Gerald (Saskatchewan); Theresa Ann Stewart (Dave) of Alberta; Catherine McArthur (John) of Prince Edward Island; and several sisters-in-law from the Annapolis Valley.

Besides her parents, Bernadette was predeceased by her beloved son, Brian; sisters, Patrice McKeigan (Andy) and Claire Fraser (Rene); brothers, John Pius and Greg; and her brother-in-law, Junior Schofield.

A special thank you to the caregivers at Miners Memorial Manor for everything you have done for her during her time spent there. You are all truly special people.

Following her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 10, from 1:00–3:00 p.m., with a service beginning at 3:00 p.m. at JM Jobes Funeral Home, followed by a lunch at Holy Family Church Hall. All who knew her are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernadette’s memory may be made to the Haley Street Adult Service Centre, North Sydney, or the Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines.

“I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always,
as long as we are living, my mommy and
nannie you’ll be.”
