Bessie Eleanor Lahey, 80, Groves Point
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the late Bessie Elanor Lahey, 80, on the 30th of August, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Born in Sydney Mines on October 31, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Edward Mouland and Mary Mouland (Waugh). She was a member of the Clyde Avenue Baptist Church in Sydney Mines as well as the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Main-A-Dieu.
She was a member of a number of groups, including the CWL Ladies Auxiliary, Girl Guides, Main-A-Dieu Church Choir, and Legion Auxiliary. She worked at the Main-A-Dieu Credit Union for many years, as well as at Coke Cola Company in Toronto. She enjoyed giving back and supporting her community either through her knitting, which donated to the church, volunteering her time, and lending a helping hand to those in need. She did this with no expectation of reward or recognition.
She is survived by her husband, John Gerald Lahey; children Gerald (Nancy) Lahey, Jason (Andrea) Lahey, Kenneth (Norma) Hickman, Robert (Valerie) Hickman, Rhona (Shaun) Sullivan (Hickman), John Richard (Karen) Lahey, and Charlie (Belinda) Lahey; by fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also Sisters and brothers Charles Mouland, Della ( Wally ) Beal, Annette Finlayson , George ( Cathy ) Mouland, Harold Mouland and Evelyn Hawco.
Predeceased by her parents, Edward Mouland and Mary Mouland (Waugh), and her daughter, Carol Anne MacLennan brothers-in-law Alex Finlayson and John Hawco
A Visitation will be held at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023, from 1-3. A private family service will follow at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital’s Hospice, where Bessie was cared for in her final days.
