Beverly Sampson Obituary

In the quiet tender hours of August 10, 2025, our beloved mother, Beverly Ann Sampson (Jessome), peacefully left this world surrounded by her cherished family and entered the arms of our Lord Saviour Jesus Christ.

Born in Florence on August 20, 1940, Beverly was the daughter of  the late Louis and Muriel (MacDonald) Jessome.

Beverly was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  To her grandchildren, she was not just “Nanny” but a best friend, a confidante, and a safe place to laugh and have fun. She had a gift for making each of them feel like the most important person in the world. Even her grandchildren’s friends enjoyed their visits to Nanny Bev’s house.

For 20 years our mom worked as a custodian at Dr. T.L. Sullivan where her strong work ethic and easy laugh made her more than just a coworker; she became a cherished friend to many. Those years were filled with countless memories, inside jokes, and moments of joy that she carried with her always.

On Sunday mornings, she could be found at the Florence Legion, volunteering at breakfast with a smile, a joke, and an endless supply of laughter. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, greeting each guest as if they were old friends. With genuine curiosity and a touch of playful nosiness, she loved learning about people and their family history. Her common question was, “Now, what’s your father’s name”. Her warmth turned simple breakfast into cherished moments of community and connection.

She treasured her time spent with her nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Known for her generosity, playful sense of humour and the joy she brought to every gathering; she was not only their beloved Aunt but also a true friend.  They adored her as much as she adored them.

In heaven, Mom will be joyfully welcomed by her dear friend and neighbour Margie, her treasured co-worker, Bernadette and her beloved Aunt Carol, who was like a sister and best friend to her. Together, they will pick up right where they left off, sharing the laughter, stories and love that brought them so much happiness here on earth.

She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply. Her husband of 64 years, Frank Sampson. Her children, Michael MacDonald (Bernadette), Frankie (Adele), Paul (Nicole), Lynn (Blaine), Lisa (Kenzie), Nancy (Bobby), Michael (Diane) and Troy (Annette). Her 17 precious grandchildren, Jillian (Jeff), Katie Anne, Jamie, Nathan (Chelsea), Ryan (Ashley), Connor, Danielle, Mark, Aidan (Micayla), Tyler (Brittany), Stephen, Tori (Jamie), Paul (Kansas), Claire (Alex), Chloe, Ava and Brody. Also by her five great grandchildren, Liam, Grayson, Annika, Lorelei and Will.

Beverly is also survived by her loving sisters Lynn (John) MacPhee, Joanne (Jerry) Risser, Laurie and Terry, brothers-in law Freeman Spicer, Harold Sampson (Georgette), sisters-in law Marie Jessome and Alice Miles (John).  Along with several nieces, nephews and friends that our mother loved dearly.

In addition to her parents, Beverly was predeceased by her granddaughter Fallon, mother-in law Rose and James Sampson. Brothers Joey and Ronnie and sisters Marie, Amelia, and Louise. Brothers-in law Bill Kamermans, John, Joe, Buddy, George, Charlie and Billy Sampson.  Sisters-in law Yvonne, Robena, Evelyn, Donna, Josie, Almeade.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to our mom’s caregivers Wanda, Janet, Christa, Melissa and Dena who provided dedicated support and compassion during her illness, the family will forever be grateful.

The family would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dawn Browne for her years of dedicated care, kindess and compassion shown to our mother throughout her illness. Your support and guidance brought comfort, not only to Mom, but to all of us who loved her.

Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at JM Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines. A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, August 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney with Father Doug MacDonald officiating. A luncheon to follow at Branch 83, Florence Legion.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Beverly’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Canada and the Cape Breton Cancer Centre.

In laughter and love, she made her home, where grandchildren gathered and friends would roam.

Her stories, her jokes, her heart so wide, a place of warmth where all could hide.

Her children she cherished, her pride, her delight, her love was a beacon both day and night.

Her doors were open, to all she knew, a welcome that wrapped like the morning dew.

And now she’s gone where pain can’t stay, Chelsey and Patches to guide her way.

Her love lives on in every heart, a bond unbroken, though we’re apart.
