William R. (Bill) (Twitter) Latwaitis – Sydney Mines
Our heartbroken family announces the sudden passing at home of our beloved partner, brother, uncle and friend – Bill – on Monday, December 6, 2021. Born in Sydney Mines in 1955, Bill spent his youth working summer jobs at Layton’s Lumber, JR Rahey’s, Marine Atlantic, and others until he finished school. Like many at the time, he went out west, first to Fort McMurray and finally settling in Calgary, working in construction and on gas pipelines for many companies from coast to coast until his retirement in 2020. His new home in Cape Breton was his Shangra-La, and he spent the last 18 months enjoying life to the fullest. Bill loved to fish and would come back to Cape Breton every year to go fishing with his family.
Bill is survived by his grieving partner and love of his life of 5 years, Sylvia Hurley, his siblings Brian (Beth)- Antigonish, Donna Maria (John C.) MacLeod -Sydney Mines, Paul –Calgary, Brenda (Marc Sarazin) – Mattawa, ON, Bruce – North Sydney and Angela (Barry) Cooper – Horsham, UK., many nieces and nephews and grand nephews and grandniece, his “kiddles” Ashland and “little buddy” Eamon, whom he adored. Also left to mourn are aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law and so many wonderful friends.
Bill was predeceased by his parents – Gregory and Mary (DiPersio) Latwaitis, his grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Bill was a huge presence – his warmth, generosity, kindness and humor will leave such a gaping hole in those left behind.
Where ever he went, whomever he met, he always left an impression. We will miss him deeply.
Bill has been cremated. Per his request there will be no visitation or service.
The family will have a celebration of his wonderful life at a later date. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
