Brennan Kevin King, “Squid,” of Sydney Mines, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the age of 24.
Born in North Sydney on November 15, 1996, Brennan was the son of Karl and Karen (Rikley) King.
He graduated from Memorial High School in Sydney Mines in 2015 and went on to receive his 3rd Class Power Engineering certificate from Nova Scotia Community College.
Wherever he went, Brennan became the life of the party, and was rarely found without an enormous smile on his face.
He loved to laugh, and when he was near, you could always count on a well-timed joke or two to lighten the mood.
Brennan was incredibly outgoing and had no trouble making friends. His personality was magnetic, and he exuded an energy that was infectious to all those around him. It was truly a joy to share his company.
He was thoughtful, kind, and courageous, and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him knew that Brennan was someone you could call for help at any time, regardless of the circumstances. He had a penchant for adventure, and he was up for anything.
Brennan was exceedingly intelligent, and he loved to learn. He could often be found with his nose buried in a book about history, space, or human anatomy.
Brennan’s interest in anatomy was fueled by his passion for all things fitness related. He was extremely health conscious and he worked out constantly. He was always on the hunt for new exercises and routines.
One of his favourite forms of exercise was shooting hoops. If he was not at home reading books or lifting weights, there was a good chance you could find him at the basketball court, sporting his beloved Toronto Raptors jersey and hat, as well as his headphones.
Brennan was an avid music lover who enjoyed all types of music. He often spent time honing his guitar skills.
In his younger years, Brennan enjoyed fishing trips with his grandpa, Angus, whom he idolized.
His love of fishing and the outdoors carried on into adulthood, and he took many fishing trips with his father, brother, uncles, and cousins near the family cottage.
Brennan had a giant heart, and his sincerity, caring, and loyalty knew no bounds. He embodied everything that a person would hope to find in a friend.
He will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and anyone who had had the pleasure of meeting him.
Brennan is survived by his parents, Karl and Karen King; his brother, Ryan King (Jess); his niece, Briar King; his grandmother, Thelma Rikley; and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Angus Rikley; his grandfather, Edward King; his grandmother, Bernice King; and his uncle, Kevin King.
There will be no visitation. A private family service will take place at a later date. Donations in Brennan’s memory may be made to Mental Health. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
