Calvin Francis Capstick

The sun set in our world on January 12, 2025 - Calvin Francis Capstick passed away at Buchannan Memorial Hospital after a courageous fight with a most horrible cancer. He was surrounded with love from his family, amazing friends and staff at BMH. A heartfelt thank you to all of Calvin’s medical care team for the help in easing his “kinks”.

Calvin began his journey in Guelph, Ontario in 1964. He then came home to us here in Bay St. Lawrence in 1966. For the next 55 years Calvin lived a happy, busy life, playing in the river and woods of his home, with his brothers, sisters and friends. He was often visiting his neighbours getting cookies, saving the best for last at “Cellas” where it was “bread and jam” mmmm! Calvin touched the lives of every house in the Bay, indeed all of North of Smokey with his beautiful smile and innocent nature that drew people to him.

In 2021 Calvin hit the jackpot. He was chosen to move to L’Arche Cape Breton, where he blossomed. He truly came into his own and built a beautiful life there. Calvin loved everything about his community, from his day programs to his party times, vacations and prayer. He thrived there - found love and was loved. Though it was only 3 short years, it was a lifetime of sheer happiness for him.

Calvin is predeceased by his parents - Freddy and Alice Capstick, “Daddy” Jim Burton, brothers Conrad and Barry and his best buddy Joey “Ho Ho”.
Left behind are his loving “mommy Dill” Julia Burton, sister Colleen, brothers Clarence, Henry, James and Jerome. Nieces and nephews including a special niece “Bobba” Rachelle, and mentor Marg. As well as his beautiful L’Arche community family at Waycobah house and of course the beat of his big beautiful heart - his love “Jokes”, you are in my heart Kay!

The family will welcome visitors on Thursday, January 16th at St Margaret’s of Scotland Church, Bay St. Lawerence beginning at 2 pm. Funeral Service will take place the following day, Friday January 17th at 1pm. Service will be officiated by Father Doug MacDonald and conducted by JM Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers Donations can be made to L’Arche Cape Breton, in Calvins memory.
