Charles Cordeau Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Charles Cordeau, Friday June 12th, 2026, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born 1938 in Sydney Mines NS, to Jean Pierre and Emma (Fourtune) Cordeau. He was the beloved husband of Katherine (MacLellan) Cordeau for 62 years.

Charles will be lovingly remembered by his 4 children, John Leo, Joesph, Yvette Short (John), Denise Blair (Jeff); Grandchildren Nicole, Emma, Charlie (mother Doreen), Brittany, Rachelle, Elisabeth, Carley and Jack; is Great Grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews. He will be dearly missed by sisters, Elisabeth, Sr. Geraldine (CND), Sr. Anna (CND), brother Fr Leo. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary (Authur) Crane, Henrietta (Ted) Haley, Teresa (Elmer) Doiron, Sr Agnes (CND); brothers, John, Daniel (Francis), Joseph (Vivian), Stanley, Francis (Marie), Son-in law Jeff, and grandson James.

Charles was the youngest of 14 children. He lived a full life focusing on Faith, Family and Fun. He was a proud family man who loved raising his family, for the majority of his career in Belleville ON, until he retired and moved back to his home town Sydney Mines, Cape Breton. He was a very social man, loved telling stories, cooking, playing and listening to music, dancing, playing and watching golf, watching hockey and baseball, and spending time with his family and many friends. He loved being around people, and loved to laugh.

We want to extend our heartful thanks to the ICU department at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, for the remarkable care and support to Charles and his family. To Syndey Mines Police Department and ambulance attendance for their exceptional service, and care.

We love you dad and will miss you every day, especially your video chat updates.

Visitation for the late Charles Cordeau will be held Tuesday June 16th, 2026 from 6-8 pm in JM Jobes Funeral Home Sydney Mines. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday June 17th at 11 am in Holy Family Parish, Sydney Mines with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
