It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Clara MacPherson who departed this life peacefully on June 9th, 2025 at the age of 93.
Affectionately known as “Ma” or “Nanny" she was the heart and soul of our family — a woman whose love, strength, and warmth touched the lives of everyone she met.
She was a devoted mother to six children: John (Valeria), Anne Marie, Florence (Steven), Donald, Mary Lou, and Jim (Michelle); a cherished grandmother to thirteen grandchildren: Michael, Denise, Canda, Adelle, Bonnie, Brent, Natalie, Calder, Charlene, Ian, Justine, Genevieve and Alec; and a proud great-grandmother to fifteen great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her nephew Lloyd MacIntosh.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Alexander “Shorty,” with whom she shared many wonderful years of marriage and family life and her brother Francis MacIntosh.
Known for her generosity and boundless hospitality, Ma always welcomed friends and family with a warm smile, a hot cup of tea, and a homemade meal. Her door was always open, and her table always full.
Ma dedicated many years to her work in the Northside General Hospital where she was deeply respected for her hard work, kindness, and tireless dedication. Her compassion extended beyond her family and into her work, leaving a lasting impact on those she worked with and served.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr.Dobson, Dr. MacCormick and Dr.Browne and all the staff of the MacEachern Wing at the Northside Community Guest Home for the care and support they provided to Ma over the past several years.
Her legacy of love, caring and resilience lives on in all of us. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
Now, Shorty is waiting with a quiet smile, ready to dance with her once more.
A visitation to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday June 12th from 6-8 at JM Jobes Funeral Home with a Funeral Mass taking place on Friday, June 13th at 11am at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. A lunch will follow at the Sydney Mines Fire Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MS Society, the Niagara Children’s Centre or a charity of your chosen.
