Cletus Boudreau Obituary

Cletus Alexander Boudreau, Little Bras d’Or

It’s with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Cletus Alexander Boudreau, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on April 3 at the age of 86.  Born on October 10, 1936 in Bras d’Or, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Lillian Boudreau.

Cletus was a master carpenter by trade.  His attention to detail will be evident for years to come with the many homes that he had built.  Cletus always credited Gerald Edwards, who passed away just a few days before him, for teaching him the trade. Dad, in turn, passed the trade on to his son Darryl. Dad left his four children an amazing legacy by hand crafting each of them a grandfather clock.  We’ll remember our father fondly every time the clocks chime.

Cletus was an amazing family man, who loved having his wife, family and friends gathered for get-togethers.  He always had a pleasant demeaner and made everyone feel welcome.  He loved his fiddle tunes and would rarely miss listening to Celtic Serenade on Sunday evenings.  In his earlier years, he loved to dance and to watch him and mom on the dance floor jiving was an absolute pleasure.

Mom and dad were inseparable, enjoying simple pleasures like a Sunday drive or watching the Price is Right or Wheel of Fortune.  There are so many wonderful memories of Summer vacations with the four children.  Pretty sure we were on every dirt road in Nova Scotia!

Cletus is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Yvonne (Reashor), his children Michelle (Gerard Laffin), Denise Gouthro, Darryl (Elizabeth MacDougall) and Shawn.  6 Grandchildren, Stacey (Andrew Nelson), Kyle (Lindsay Rose), Nicole, Robin, Coady and Joshua.  Four Great-Grandchildren, Fiona, Connor, Oliver and Charlotte.  Also survived by his brother Kenny (Woodstock, ON), Ozzie and Candace (Bras d’Or), Diane (Bras d’Or) and sister-in-law Leona (George’s River) Cletus is predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Lillian Boudreau, his brother Carl (Leona), his sister Marlene and her husband Dave MacLellan and sister-in-law Aloma (Kenny).  Also predeceased by Yvonne’s parents Maurice and Theresa Reashor.

The family would like to thank our Family Doctor, Peter Poulos, and his Admin Assistant, Sarah MacNeil.  Your professionalism and compassion are incredible.  Dad thought very highly of you.  Thanks to Dr. Rose MacKay and the staff of Cape Breton Regional Hospital Emergency Dept and to Dr Matthew Ernst and the staff of 4C.  Your compassion and care will never be forgotten.  Thank you also to the VON and Family First Medical for being an important part of Dad’s final days.

There will be no visitation as per Dad’s wishes.  A  funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 10:30 am in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Chinonso officiating. A reception will follow in Bras d'Or hall.  The family asks that donations be made in Cletus’ memory to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
