Colin “Collie” MacDonald
Sydney Mines
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Colin “Collie” MacDonald, age 92, on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Mabou on February 11, 1929, he was the son of the late Ronnie C. and Flora (MacNeil) MacDonald.
Collie was a herd-working, well-respected man. He was an honourable man who always put others before himself. He spent 46 years delivering milk for Modern City Dairy, and later for Scotsburn Dairy in Sydney. As people knew him as Collie the Milkman, he had many funny stories over the years while on the road.
Collie had a zest for life, spending most of his free time outdoors. He enjoyed his walks with Helen, fishing, hunting, and spending time in his garden. The place he loved the most was his cabin in Mabou. Lots of great memories from time spent with family and friends.
Collie is survived by his partner of 46 years, Helen Clarke, his sons Jerry (Colleen), and Robert (Sharon), daughters Joanne (Wayne), and Verna (Brendon), grandchildren Steven, Tammy, Shannon, Mason and Shelby, 10 great-grandchildren, sisters Ann and Margaret, brother Bernie (Leona), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by the mother of his children, his first wife Carmel (Carpenter) MacDonald in January, 2001, brothers James and Neil, sisters Ceila and Kay, and a sibling at birth.
The family would like to thank John King and the nurses of 4C for the special care our Dad received.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Collie’s life will be held Friday, October 8, 2021, at 10 an in Holy Family Church, Main St., Sydney Mines, with Fr. Fabian Ihunegbo officiating. Covid 19 restrictions will be observed in the church. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
