Conrad Gaskell Obituary

Conrad Douglas Gaskell, 71

Mill Creek

It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend, Conrad Douglas Gaskell, 71, on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at home.

Born on March 10, 1951, he was the son of the late Doris and Jack Gaskell, Mill Creek.

He was an avid baseball fan from an early age, playing Little League, and in later years, with several teams throughout the Northside. He rarely missed a Blue Jays game.

Con enjoyed many hunting trips and retold tales of the adventures he and the boys had. Somehow, that deer on Kelly’s Mountain got bigger and bigger every year.

Con worked in the retail business, and his job took him throughout the Atlantic Provinces. He returned to Cape Breton in 1976, and in July 1977 he married the love of his life, Hope.

Con dearly loved his nieces and nephews. Many sleepovers, monopoly games, and baking contests were enjoyed at Uncle Con and Aunt Hope’s house.

Con is survived by his beloved wife, Hope, brothers John (Shirley), Brian (Annette), and Terry, his sister Ann (Joe) Lundrigan, brother-in-law George (Khristine) Stubbert, sisters-in-law Joan (Ken) Matheson, and Iris (Vic) Murphy, and his much- cherished nieces and nephews.

Beside his parents, Con was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Lauchie and Mary Stubbert, and sister-in-law Lorraine Gaskell.

We would like to thank Dr. Peter Poulos for his amazing care of Con for many years. You always went the extra mile for him. Also, thank you to Dr. Hewlett and the Renal Clinic staff for your guidance in his dialysis journey. Also, thank you to the VON Cape Breton. We are truly grateful.

As per Con’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service for family and friends will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 11 am, in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Chinonso Alaribe officiating. Donations in Con’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Society. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
