Arthur Cordell Brown, known to everyone as Cordell, passed away suddenly on November 19, 2025, at the age of 63 in his hometown of Georges River, Nova Scotia. Born on December 21, 1961, Cordell was the beloved son of Arthur and Madonna Brown and a proud lifelong resident of the community he cherished.
Cordell is survived by his devoted wife, Lana Colleen Brown, and their children, Mitchel, married to Vega, and Nicola, married to Bryce. He was a proud grandfather to Hayes and Stellar, who were the true joys of his life.
He is also survived by his siblings, Tonya, married to Eddie, Nadine Brown, and Rick Brown, married to Karen, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly.
Cordell leaves behind close friends who were like family, including Donny and Carla Carmichael, Elf and Jone Buffet, Glenn and Noreen Eavis, and the dedicated employees of Brown Refrigeration, Sandy Jessome and Katie Turner, who were an important part of his life and business. He also held a special place in the hearts of Jorden and Josh Capstick, who thought of him as a second father.
A hardworking and respected businessman, Cordell owned and operated Brown Refrigeration Ltd. for many years. He was known throughout the region as a skilled problem-solver and a man who could be counted on at any hour. It wasn’t uncommon to see him driving home late at night after helping a customer in need. His strong work ethic, honesty, and integrity earned him a reputation as someone you could trust—someone who always showed up.
Cordell was deeply rooted in his community. He was a pillar in Georges River and an active member of the Bras d’Or Mi’kmaq community, proudly supporting local initiatives and friendships. He also cared deeply for those affected by cancer and offered support wherever he could.
Beyond his work, Cordell embraced life fully. He loved boating, fishing, hunting, skiing, and traveling. He especially loved spending time at the cottage with family and friends, sitting around the campfire, sharing stories, and enjoying the simple moments that meant so much to him. Nothing made him happier than being on the water with his family or playing with his grandchildren. His kind spirit, calm patience, and warm presence made him the person friends called in the middle of the night—because they knew he would always be there.
Cordell valued family, loyalty, and community above all else. He believed in protecting the people he loved, lending a hand without being asked, and living with integrity every day. His legacy will be carried forward by the many people whose lives were made better simply by knowing him.
He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Archibald Avenue, North Sydney. Following the Mass, the family invites all to join them for a luncheon at St. Joseph’s Bras d’Or Church Hall.
