It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Curtis James Porter. Born and raised in Sydney Mines, Curtis was the son of the late Colin Frances Porter and Margarite Kernick Porter.
Curtis was a proud member of Local 56 Plumbers & Pipefitters Union and earned his Red Seal certification. He retired in 2020 from Fire Stop after 30 years of dedicated service as a sprinkler fitter.
Curtis loved going dancing and was always the last one on the floor. He spent many Saturday afternoons with his buddies at the legion before heading to the bowling alley in Sydney Mines. He enjoyed spending his summers in Wreck Cove fishing, boating, and playing his guitar around the campfire with family, friends, and his little dog, Tasha.
Curtis leaves to mourn his three daughters: Veronica (Wade), Lacey (Chris) Bridgewater, and Dawn; his brothers Gary (Brenda), David (Sherry), Greg (Agnes), and Brant (Carson); and his sisters Marina Robinson and Noel Williams (Jim).
He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Taylor, Josh, Ethan, Jake, Sadie, Kye, Colby, and Henry, and by his great-grandchildren Elan and Charlee.
Curtis also leaves behind his partner, best friend, and fishing buddy, Rosemary Steeves, along with her family: Shane (Annette), Roxanne (Ronnie), and Tiffany (Ion); grandchildren Abigail (John), Keygan, Lexi, Elias, and Asher; and great-grandson Jack.
Also left to cherish his memory are the mother of his girls, Christine Robinson, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Curtis was predeceased by his brothers Billy and Randy; his sister Gail Porter; his stepfather Duncan White; his sister-in-law Joanne Jillian Porter; his brother-in-law Joseph Robertson; his nephew Colin; his nieces Betty and Colleen; his fur babies Noodles and Mischief; and his good friend Paul, whose visits he deeply missed.
Curtis enjoyed visits from longtime coworkers and friends Jimmy Musgrave and Kevin MacLean, as well as his morning chats with the ladies down at Robins on Main Street, Michelle and Patsy.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the palliative care cancer unit staff on Floors 4 and 5 at Northside Hospital for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA or the Salvation Army of your choice.
In keeping with Curtis’s wishes, there will be no service.
“Hope you and Dad are playing tunes for all the family members.”
Love always from the family.
