James Cyprian LeBlanc of Alder Point
We are saddened to announce the death of a beloved husband and father, Cyprian
(Cyppie) LeBlanc Sr., on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
He was the son of the late Matilda and James H. LeBlanc also of Alder Point.
He lived his entire life in Alder Point where he and his wife, Mary, raised six children. He
endured many hardships in his 103 years and overcame numerous hurdles, not least of
which was losing his foot in a mining accident at age 18. He went on to support his family
by working in crop pits, selling and delivering coal throughout the county. In later years he
worked in construction as a member of Laborer’s International Union Local 1115. Cyprian
took great pleasure in traditional music, singing and playing numerous instruments, making
and repairing fiddles, building boats and boat models. His greatest joy was his children
and their offspring. He is survived by his wife of 80 years, Mary LeBlanc (Broderick); two
daughters Charlotte Ferguson (John) and Yvonne LeBlanc-Smith (Ian), daughter-in-law Jane; three sons, Hugh,
Byron (Heather), Gordon; sister, Doreen LeBlanc (On); brothers, Louis LeBlanc (On) and
Henry LeBlanc (Florence); in-laws, Jim and Marilyn Broderick (Pt Aconi);10 grandchildren,
9 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son,
Cyprian (Cyppie), granddaughters, Nicole and Melanie; sisters Mary Thériault and Rosella
Rice; brothers Carl, Roger, and Ernie.

Visitation is Wednesday, June 17,2026 , 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney
Mines. A funeral mass will be held at St. Anne’s Church, Alder Point at 10:30 am Thursday,
June 18 with immediate burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Bras d’Or followed by a luncheon
at Alder Point Hall. Donations may be made to St. Ann’s Church or charity of choice.
