It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of David Roy “Dukie” Doyle at the age of 71.
Born with an adventurous spirit, Dukie was an avid outdoorsman and hunter throughout his life. The woods were his second home, and he shared countless days there with his buddies, where the stories, laughter, and quiet appreciation of nature meant as much as the hunt itself. Dukie never rushed past the beauty of the world around him—he was known to stop his drives at the mere sight of a deer, bird, or any wildlife that caught his eye, grateful for every moment outside.
In recent years, Dave found a new passion in cars. With great pride, he purchased a mustang that he looked forward to caring for and cruising in alongside his friends from the Northside Boys car club. Much like the outdoors, the car club brought him camaraderie, excitement, and something to be truly excited about.
Above all else, Dave loved his wife, Nancy. Their 35 years together were filled with loyalty, partnership, humour, and an unwavering devotion. To Nancy, he was not just a husband, but her steady companion, her friend, and the person who made each ordinary day more meaningful.
Dave was proud to be a father from the very first moment. He shared his love, his wisdom, and his stories with his children so they could build good and meaningful lives of their own. That same devotion extended to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy, and whom he loved dearly.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Paquet) Doyle; his children, Linda (Kevin), Shawn (Jessica), and Emily (Trevor); grandchildren, Brandon (Samantha), Nadia, Chase, and Nevaeh; and his great-grandson, Damon. He will also be dearly missed by Nancy’s family, the Paquets, whom he cherished as his own, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his mother, Evelyn Doyle Popaduck, step-father Alex Popaduk, and brothers Jimmy and Blai McIsaac.
Dave’s working life took him from the Mines to the West Coast, where he retired proudly from Local 92. His hard work, quiet strength, and ability to connect with people earned him the respect of many throughout the years.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to EHS, the Fire Department, the RCMP, and to his close neighbours for their compassion and support.
In keeping with Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, do as Dukie would do and give back to someone in need, or to a local charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 18th from 2–4 PM at the John J. Nugent Firemen’s Centre, Sydney Mines. All who knew and loved Dukie are welcome.
