It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Murray Fitzgerald, age 79, at Buchanan Memorial Community Health Centre on September 3, 2025.
David was born on December 6, 1946, in Neil’s Harbour, to Patrick and Harriet (Wilkie) Fitzgerald. He worked alongside his brother Kelly for many years before starting his own business, Dingwall Trucking, which he ran until his retirement.
David is survived by his loving wife and companion of 42 years, Ruby; his children Charlie (Dorthy), Helen, and Shane (Amy); grandchildren Daniel (Sheryl), Bradley, Linda, Chrissy, David, Justine, and Austin; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepdaughters Annie, Karen, Patricia, and Marie; his brothers Lloyd, Ariland (Brenda), and Adriel (Amy); and sister-in-law Peggy.
He was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Harriet (Wilkie) Fitzgerald; his partner Linda Sutherland; brothers Roy and Kelly; sisters Rita, Helen, and Anne Marie; brothers-in-law Martin Goodman (Rita) and Roger Fraser (Helen); and sisters-in-law Marcella MacLellan (Roy), Lise Doe (Lloyd), and Audrey Ashford (Kelly).
David loved his daily drives with a hot cup of coffee. He could often be found parked by the water, listening to the waves and sharing conversations with locals. Throughout his life, he shared a special bond with his nephew Johnnie and granddaughter Linda, with whom he enjoyed many laughs and stories. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Continuing Care, as well as the staff and doctors at Buchanan Memorial Community Health Centre, for their kindness and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Buchanan Memorial Community Health Centre in Neil’s Harbour.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, October 4th, 2025, in the Aspy Bay United Church Cemetery. Following the committal service, the family will welcome everyone to share in stories over a lunch-on and a Celebration of life at the Aspy Bay United Hall. All are welcome to attend.
