David Jessome Obituary

David Jessome
Florence

God needed another Angel in Heaven, so he called ours home.  David Jessome Sr. left his earthly home with us and crossed over to his heavenly home with God on Monday, January 18, 2021 at the age of 81.  David was the son of the late Patrick and Sarah Ellen (Nellie) Jessome.   He died from complications of Lewy Body Dementia, which he fought for 13 years.
He was well known in the Florence community a member of Florence Legion, Kiwanis Golden K Club, and Council of Society of St. Vincent de Paul.  Was a lector and choir member in St. Stephen’s Parish.  He was the former Commanding Officer of 602 McCurdy Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron – the same squadron that all 5 children were members of.  During this time, he helped them to acquire all the criteria necessary to reach the gold level of the Duke of Edinburgh program and took them as far as London Ont. so these cadets could be presented with their medals from the Duke of Edinburgh himself.
A man of many careers, he served in the Army for 3 years, worked in the coal mines, bricklayer’s helper, barber, milkman and lastly a butcher at the Bras d’or Co-op.
He is survived by his wife and soul mate Jane (DeLeskie), his children, Davy (Sheila), Denise, Derek (Carolyn), Debra, Duane (Joeliene), his grandchildren Brittany, Chad, Eric, Elise, Daniel, Katie, John, James, Mitchell, Logen, Connor, Courtland and Quinn, his great grandchildren, Kylila, Luna and Mitchell, and one on the way in March, his brother Carl, his sisters Patti (Gordon) and Shirley (John), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by siblings Nellie, Winnie, Irene, Sis, Harry, Brozie and Stephen.
The family can’t express how much we appreciate the staff at the DVA in HVH. They always went above and beyond for their “King”. We know that he became like a family member to you all over time and he was treated as such. The care and concern that you showed for us all as we sat with him in his final days will be remembered forever.
In lieu of flowers or donations, Dave would like to be remembered as one who lived to help others.  So, he would want you to pay it forward and offer help to those that need it.  Sometimes only a smile or a hello, how are you.  He brought his children up to believe families that play, pray, and work together will continue that belief with their families to come after him.
There will be no visitation. A celebration of his life will take place Thursday, January 21, 2021, at 11 am in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Fabian Ihunegbo officiating. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
