David Latwaitis Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce David’s passing on April 4th, 2025 after a very courageous battle with cancer.

David started his career in the forestry industry teaching at the Commercial Safety College in Truro, then continued to the Nautical college in Port Hawkesbury. After that job ended he continued working in the forestry industry all over Inverness and Victoria Counties.

David was hard working and kept to himself, and if you fished the Margaree River you knew you were being watched as he sat in the sun porch, having a tea, watching the salmon jump.

David was our go to guy for anything that needed to be built or fixed. If he didn’t have it in the barn he would “MacGyver it” as we jokingly referred to his inventions and creations. He loved to garden and talk about it to anyone who needed advice and though his health wasn’t good, he still planted his last bed of garlic last fall.

David was predeceased by his parents Tony and Bernadette (MacNeil) Latwaitis. He is survived by his sisters Elaine (Peter) Manhire, Smiths Falls,Ont; Alice (Charlie) Coleman, Florence, and his brother Eric (Ainsley), Baddeck. Also left to miss him are Nephews and Nieces, William and Katherine Manhire, Sidney and Adam Coleman, and Duggan and Elsie Latwaitis.

We would like to thank the Cape Breton Cancer Center, Palliative Care and VON. All the doctors, nurses and support staff were always there when we needed anything or had any questions about Dave’s care.

We would like to send a special thank you to Juilia Penney of C.B. Palliative Care. David looked forward to every single visit and spoke of you like family.

Cremation has taken place and at Dave’s request there is no service. Private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to CB Cancer Center or Palliative Care.

“Rest in Peace Dave, we hope there are no restrictions on the size of the salmon you can keep in heaven”
