David Robert MacLean
Ingonish
It is with fond memories and sadness we announce the sudden passing of David Robert MacLean, 70, of Ingonish, on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at home.
Born in Neil’s Harbour on November 14, 1950, he was the son of the late Kenneth (Kenny) and Margaret (MacKinnon) MacLean.
David grew up in Ingonish spending much of his life as a fisherman at “The Point” in North Bay, Ingonish and years as a sheet metal worker with the Sheet Metal Workers Association Local 56, in Sydney, which took him to jobs around the province and to Nfld.
As a young man he spent many an evening at Branch 105, sipping beverages with friends, sharing stories and shenanigans, but in his later years he was a quiet man who enjoyed the simple things in life. Many of his joys included puttering in the garden, cutting and piling wood for the winter, trips to the Irving, and visits with his buddy Lloyd for tea.
He is survived by his companion/partner of 32 years Sandra Macdonald, daughter Dawn MacLean Collins (Mike), son Jeffrey MacLean (Glori), step-daughter Michelle Barbrick and her daughter Penelope, plus the two lights of his life, his grandsons Hayden & Rowen. He is also survived by his brothers George MacLean (Leona), William MacLean (Debbie), and Eric MacLean (Donna Lynn), sisters Carmen Hussey and Helen MacLeod (Gerald), sister in-law Gail MacLean and former spouse and friend Lexie MacNeil. David also leaves behind lifelong friends, in-laws and cousins, who he made many a memory with.
Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his brother Donnie MacLean, four infant siblings and step-son Thomas Whitty.
A family graveside service will take place on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11 am in St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Ingonish. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
