Della Mae (Urquhart) MacKinnon

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Della Mae MacKinnon, on December 30th, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her family.

Della was born on October 23rd, 1961, to the late Shirley (MacIntosh) and Frank Urquhart of Pleasant Bay.

Della’s greatest pride and joy was her family, and she was happiest when spending time with her grandkids.

Della is survived by her loving husband of 44 years Allister Kenneth MacKinnon, her son Michael, daughters Juanita (Aundre Gwynn) and Abbigail (Julian Corbin). Grandchildren Emma, Chloe, Jacob, Payton, Jada, Dakota, Joshua and Ariana. Sisters Brenda (Ariland Fitzgerald), Sylvia (Skippy Bishop), and Mary Capstick. Sisters in law Neldia (Joe Capstick), Betty Bonnar,  Diane (Peter Fraser), Connie (Robert MacKinnon), Patsy (Stanley Buchanan), Lucy, Rosie (Jim Barron), Colleen, Crystal and Gail McEvoy. Brothers in law Frances (Cathy), Kevin (Amy), Sheldon (Delilah), and Hughie.

Della was predeceased by her parents Frank and Shirley Urquhart, parents in law Peter (Pea) and Mary (May) MacKinnon. Sisters in law Clara and Lillian, brother John McEvoy. Brothers in law Tommy, Danny, and Fred Bonnar.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, especially Dr. John Ritter, Palliative Care, for their care and compassion during her final days.

There will be a visitation at Kenneth and Della’s home (1407 Bay St. Lawrence Rd) on Tuesday, January 2nd,2024, at 1:00 pm. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Bay Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the lower level of the Whale Interpretive Centre, Pleasant Bay.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
