Dennis MacDonald Obituary

Dennis MacDonald

Ingonish Beach

We, the family of Dennis MacDonald, age 73, sadly announce his passing on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at home.

Born in Neil’s Harbour on June 20, 1947, he was the son of the late Alex (Punk) and Edna (Rogers) MacDonald.

Dennis was a military veteran, retiring after being injured.  He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 105 in Ingonish. He worked at various jobs over the years. He enjoyed traveling, especially his trips to Florida with friends Reed and Diane Dowling, walking, playing cards, and the frustration of playing golf on his beloved Highlands Links with his good friends Lawson and Albert. Mostly, he enjoyed sitting on the deck and enjoying the view of Linda’s garden.

Although Dennis had been diagnosed with dementia, this didn’t stop him from planning visits to PEI and looking forward to Peggy and Wayne’s summer visit home. But, complications from a recently diagnosed cancer took him in a sudden and unexpected way. Thank you to all who cared for him and helped make his last days comfortable and peaceful – doctors, nurses, my sisters, family and friends.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Linda (Young) MacDonald, son Colin (Cheryl) MacDonald, and grandson Ty, daughter Tammy (Joe Ryan), grandson Brock and granddaughter Anna. He also leaves behind his sister Sandra MacLeod, niece Katherine-Ann (MacLeod) Brown and her family, sister Jean Ingraham (Don), nephew Art (Amy) and his family, nieces Denise (Alisha) and families, Jackie (Eddie), and family, brother Roger MacDonald, sisters-in-law Christena Young (the caregiver of the family), Peggy (Wayne Dedrick), Wilma (Shelly) Comeau, and brother-in-law Joseph (Patricia) Young.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Regional Cancer Centre in Sydney. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
