It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our Son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend, Derrick James Bailey, who passed away on September 9, 2024
Born in Sydney Mines on July 26, 1998, he was the son of Kevin and Kim (Devoe) Bailey.
Derrick was a special soul who deeply cared for his family. He held a special bond with his nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Derrick was a great friend; although he was fighting his own battles with addiction, he was able to help many others overcome their own addictions. Sadly, he lost his own battle in the end.
Derrick was a member of Local 92 for many years.
Derrick had a bucket list. The number one item was Skydiving. He was lucky enough to accomplish this this past July 26th, on his champagne birthday, and had so much fun doing it!
Derrick is survived by his parents, Kevin and Kim, brother Tyler (Sydney Ann), Alberta; grandfather, Derrick (Bev) Devoe; Aunts, Shauna (Derrick) and Paula (Mike); Girlfriend, Deidre, who he loved very much and the love she had for him was unbreakable. Cousins, Natasha, Marissa, Ryan, Jennifer, Heather Dawn, and Paul. Niece and Nephew Kayce, Mason, Orlando, Onnalie, Lillianne and Lola who were the love and joy of his life, and godfather Randy MacLean, along with his fur babies Leo and D O G
Derrick also had many other special people in his life that he was so lucky to have. A special Nanny, Sis (Rose Hoeg), who he loved to visit; they always had great fun pranking each other with special gifts. A special Aunt Tanya, and special friends Tommy and Marion, who were always there for him any time of the day or night. Derrick had so many close friends, too many to mention them all, but Glen Currie and Kyle Patterson were two of his biggest supporters. Derrick was also the godfather of Glen’s daughter, Jessa. He will also be missed by Cousin Eileen, who Derrick loved to pick on daily.
Derrick was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, James Guy (Butch) and Lillian Bailey, maternal grandmother Darlene Devoe, and uncle Jamie Bailey.
Visitation for the late Derrick James Bailey will be held from 1-3 pm, with service to follow at 3 pm on Friday, September 13, 2024, in JM Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, with Reception to follow at John J. Nugent Firemen’s Centre, Sydney Mines. Burial will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 2 pm in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Donations may be made to Mental Health and Addictions Nova Scotia.
