Dwayne Gordon Roland
Bras d’Or
It is with great sadness and deepest regret that we, the family, announce the passing of Dwayne after a long, courageous battle with cancer on November 29, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Left to mourn his passing are his loving, devoted, supportive wife of 27 years, LeeAnne (Arsenault), and his beloved children Jillian (James) Tyler and Marc. Also, his parents, Greg and Brenda Roland, Bras d’Or, and His brother Gregory (Jill) Roland of Sackville, Nova Scotia. His mother-in-law, Carol Arsenault, and brother-in-law, Jerry Arsenault. Many aunts’ uncles and cousins. Marlene Kettle, whom he thought of as his own, and her daughter Tessa, who affectionately called him Opa.
Dwayne was a member of the local union, the 1852 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He had many close friends, including Robert MacLeod, Travis MacLeod, Shawn Morrison, Kelly MacDonald, Adrian Reashore, Krista Kennedy, and Margaret MacLeod, just to name a few, but many more supportive people.
Dwayne traveled often for work across Canada if needed. He also worked for Marine Atlantic as an electrician and electrical engineer on their ferry services. Dwayne also loved his motorbike and would often be found touring many back roads in Cape Breton.
An avid carpenter, Dwayne worked many years as a journeyman. He learned that trade by working for Terry Porter Custom Trim and Cabinets (Terry & Sherry Porter). He always said he learned from the best and proved it many times with his ongoing house renovations that he truly loved. He was also known for his quick wit and sarcasm, stating many times in the last 6 months that all his doctor's appointments were just to confirm that he was the better-looking brother in the family. He loved to let his brother Gregory know that.
Dwayne was predeceased by his loving and wonderful grandparents, maternal and paternal. Also, his father-in-law Gerald Arsenault, with whom he is now having loving arguments over Ford and Dodge.
The family would love to take the time to thank the loving supporting staff at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, along with Dr. Seleba, for the wonderful care he has received on his journey. The staff of Unit 4B loved and looked after him on his final days, and the Palliative care unit made him comfortable and loved on his final journey home.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held Sunday, December 3rd, from 1-3 at JM Jobes Funeral Home in Sydney Mines, and a luncheon will follow at Alder Point Community Centre.
