The family of Dwight Paul Eveleigh regret to announce his passing on June 18th, 2024, at the age of 78, at Northside General Hospital in North Sydney. Born in Sydney Mines on January 12th, 1946, he was the son of the late Herbert & Eleanor (Marsh) Eveleigh.’
A jack of all trades, Dwight put his skills to work, beginning his career at home as a miner with Princess Colliery, later moving into carpentry, and later moving out west to take on job with Suncore before returning to Cape Breton in retirement.
Dwight's skills went well beyond this profession. He could typically be found golfing in his own backyard at Seaview Golf and Country Club or fishing at one of his favorite spots around the island. Dwight's passion for sports was with hockey , where he would love to coach the youth programs.
Left to morn, his passing is his loving wife of 58 years, Joan (Hollett) Eveleigh, and their five children: Juanita (Shawn) Knott, Tracey (Kevin) Smith, Chris (Elanie) Eveleigh, Margaret Eveleigh (Richard Newman) and Jennifer (Carson) Jesso. Nine grandchildren: Kisandra Smith, Stephanie (Ian) MacPherson, Steven Knott, Cody & Alexander Newman, Logan & Alexis Jesso, George & David Eveleigh. Three great-grandchildren: Bentley Semyrko, Ty & Natalie MacPherson. As well as sister Cynthia McGean, Brothers Kenneth (Donna) Eveleigh, Willam Eveleigh, Herbie (Jackie) Eveleigh, and David Eveleigh.
Besides their parents, Dwight was predeceased by his in-laws, Henry & Margaret (Robertson) Hollett, Douglas McGean, Fred Courage, Will Kristman, Larry Buck, and Micheal McGean.
At Dwight's request, there will be no service or viewing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dwight’s memory to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre.
