We are so sad to announce Poppy’s passing on Saturday, November 16th, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, in the palliative care unit. He went peacefully with his girls by his side, two days shy of his 77th birthday.
Born in Alder Point to Bill & Mini Buffett, he was always a hard worker, jack of all trades, sailor, carpenter, and fisherman. Some of the hobbies he enjoyed included camping, making sure he had a roaring fire and great music for everyone to enjoy, he also liked his cars, a good baseball game, and his garden. A special thank you to Raymond Marsh who helped in keeping Poppy’s Garden going the last few years. 
In recent years, he most enjoyed fishing trips with his brother Cameron and spending time with all his girls. He formed a special bond with his granddaughter Jenna who lived with him in her younger years. They shared so much time together, going for long drives, cooking, fishing and their Sunday morning breakfast dates. Jenna was his guardian angel until the very end, and now he is ours.
Left to mourn are his only daughter Leanne (Ricky Donovan), granddaughters, Danielle (Daniel Crane), Jenna (Dylan Boutilier), Emily (Caleb Leprieur) and great granddaughter’s, Avery, Madelyn & Millie who were his pride and joy. Poppy also leaves behind three stepdaughters, Carrie, Cindy & Brandy whom he thought the world of. Poppy comes from a large family of fifteen children, he will be deeply missed by brothers, Barry, Cameron (Doreen) & Wayne. Sisters, Joan (Sandy), Mary, Olive (Bob), Sharon, Joanne (Greg) & sister-in-law Deanna, and many nieces and nephews.
 Besides his parents, Poppy was predeceased by his littlest angel Stevie Marie, wife Wanda, brothers William Junior, Bernie, Cecil, Little Cameron & Edward, His sister Yvonne & sisters-in- law, Josephine, Francis, Edie & Allison. Brothers-in- law Ernie and Hartland.
A special thankyou to the staff of 4A and Palliative care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and the VON girls who went above and beyond. 
Cremation has taken place, a visitation will be held in J.M.Jobes Funeral home Sydney Mines, Friday November 22nd from 10-12 with a memorial service to immediately follow in the funeral home, after which a luncheon will be held at the Alder Point community hall, where Poppy lived and had many friends and neighbors. A private burial will take place at a later date. 
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
