Elizabeth Jessome (Snow)
North Sydney
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Elizabeth Jessome, regretfully announce her passing on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at the North Side General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on August 2, 1931, she was the daughter of the late William and Nora (Blinkhorn) Snow.
Elizabeth was well known as a bookkeeper, having performed these duties for more than 60 years, starting in the office of the British Canadian Co-op at the age of 16. She attended Cape Breton Business College following her marriage, and for a number of years, she worked for the Cape Breton Farmer’s Exhibition, JA MacKinnon Shell Service Station, Federal Business Development Branch, Soundafex, Ramsey’s Signs, just to name a few. She also ran her own business, Facts and Figures, with the help of her daughters Jennie, Dorothy, and Florence.
By 1995, ill health caused her to semi-retire from full-time work, but she remains in touch with her former clients, whom she treated like family.
She is survived by her seven daughters and two sons; Billy (Gloria), Alder Point, Jennie (Bill) Green, North Sydney, Dorothy MacDonald, Kentville, Ellie (Danny) Levy, New Ross, Claire MacKay, Dartmouth, Tom (Becky), Eastern Passage, Mary Jessome, Calgary, Ruthie Jessome, Dartmouth, Florence (Gerald) Bourque, Dartmouth, as well as her sister Ruth Legere. She will be mourned by her 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Her loss will be mourned by all who knew her; her welcoming smile, and her words of wisdom. It will be a loss for all who had the privilege of knowing her. Those who knew her became family to her, and family was her pride and joy. Over the years, she took many people under her wing and guided them, loved them, and treated them as if they were her own.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her step-father Robert Greenwell, as well as her husband Phillip Jessome, sons-in-law Val MacKay, John MacDonald, Gordon MacLean, Bernie Donovan, John Burke, a grandson at birth, and her companions Harry Phillips, and Tom Green.
Her family would like to thank the nursing staff of 5 East at the Northside General Hospital for taking such good care of her as well as Dr. Wawer and Dr. Ignacio.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation at J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, on Sunday, March 19, 2023, from 2-4 pm. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Anne’s Parish, Alder Point, or the SPCA. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
