Eric James Fraser - Little Bras d’ Or
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Eric James Fraser, announce his passing. Dad passed away peacefully with his daughters, holding his hands on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the Harbourview Hospital, DVA unit in Sydney Mines. Born in Little Bras d’Or on December 18, 1948, he was the son of Maurice and Philomena (Jessome)Fraser.
Dad was a jack of all trades but known for his ability to build or fix anything, he was so proud that he and Mom built their own home with their bare hands. He was a Concrete finisher; on a drive, he would point out the concrete steps he built on houses. He was a lobster fisherman, and he was the captain of his own vessel, the Rhonda Mae. He was a sawmill owner and operator. He was always doing work for people and trying to save them a dollar.
In his younger years, he was a Hunter and Dart player. He loved a good fishing trip and camping in the Highlands, where he would also enjoy blueberry picking for his friends and family. He had a true love for the outdoors and grew many vegetable gardens. He was happiest when he, Mom, and Uncle Clayton Were panning for gold in some stream that they “had to walk an hour or more“ to get into. Dad always enjoyed a few beers. You could find him suppin’ a large glass of draft at the Blue Mist Tavern, and he would frequently find a chair at the ‘machines.’
Eric is survived by his daughters, who he loved very much, Patricia (Barry) MacIntyre, at home in Little Bras d’Or. Karen Snow (Eddie), Florence. Tracey (Terry) Inder, North Sydney. His seven grandchildren, Kaylee, Christian, Mason, Emily, Madison, Terry Louis (Courtney), Ashley, and one great-grandson, his namesake Fraser. He is also survived by his brother Greg (Lena) Fraser, North
Sydney and only Sister Madelyn Hall, Alberta. He will be sadly missed by the Carey family and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially Ken Jessome who he spent a lot of time with over the last several years.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Phyllis (Carey), Mother-in-law Sadie and father-in-law Louis Carey, his best friend and brother Clayton, brothers Ronnie and Carl Fraser. Brother-in-laws Echo, Raymond, Duck, John Ek Carey, and Jim Hall. Sister In-laws Catherine Rudderham, Sophie Tucker, Joan, and Annie Carey.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm service to follow directly after at JM Jobes Funeral Home Sydney Mines.
