 It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness, the family of Gerald Ernest Confiant, 70, announce his sudden passing on Friday, December 10, 2021. Born in Alder Point on May 7, 1951, Ernie was the eldest child of Louise and the late Gerald Confiant. A man of few words, Ernie loved his family, loved to laugh, and knew how to give the biggest hugs. His younger years saw him proudly sailing the Great Lakes and settling in Ontario until his retirement from Metrolinx GO Transit where he was employed for over 30 years, making many lasting friendships. Ernie retired in 2018 and fulfilled his dream of returning to Cape Breton to spend time with his family.

Ernie is survived by his loving mother, Louise (Roland) Confiant, his wife Gloria (Carey) Confiant, and his greatest accomplishment, his son Gerry. Also surviving are his sisters Laurie (Gerard) Howley, Nancy (Ernie) Lightfoot, Denise, Joanne (Cyril) Vickers, Gina (Billy) Carey, Lisa, Cynthia (Allen Fennell), Monique (Rob) Wheeler, and Mary Ann, and his brothers Dave (Sandi), Richie, and Vernon (Tracy).  Ernie was very proud to be God-father to Mary Ann, Murray, Kenneth, Aimee, Dennis, and Elaine, son-in-law to Muriel Carey, brother-in-law to Verna, Pammy, Rossie, and Nancy, as well as uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Ernie was predeceased by his father Gerald, brother Dennis, sister Elaine, nephew Jeffery, grand-niece Molly, his father-in-law Bobby, and brothers-in-law Kenny, Ernie and Rickey Carey.

Visitation for Ernie Confiant will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Covid 19 restrictions and proof of vaccine will be required at the funeral home and the church.

Mass of Christian Celebration will take place at St. Anne’s Church, Alder Point at 10:30 am Friday, with Fr. Chinonso Alaribe officiating.
